Over three days, the SHIFT Workshop brought together art, Libyan heritage, and Artificial Intelligence in a space for learning, experimentation, and rethinking how elements of our cultural memory can be transformed into contemporary ideas and visual works.
The workshop began with a central question: How can AI become a tool for reimagining Libyan heritage without losing its connection to memory and identity?
Day One | AI to Reimagine Libyan Heritage Through Art
Led by artist and designer Alaa Abudabbous, who shared his experience of incorporating Libyan symbols and visual culture into his artistic practice, while exploring how AI can be used to reinterpret heritage through contemporary art.
Day Two | The Memory of Place: Libyan Visual Identity Between Heritage and Cultural Practice
Led by artist and cultural manager Hadia Gana, who shared experiences from her work in Tripoli’s Old City and her Beit Ali Gana – The Bride’s Chest project, introducing participants to elements of Libyan heritage and exploring their documentation, preservation, and possibilities for reintroducing them to new generations.
Day Three | Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Artistic Creativity: Tools & Applications
Led by Mohamed Alzahdi, a physician and technology enthusiast with more than 16 years of experience in the creative field. Participants explored a range of AI tools and techniques and how they can be integrated into creative thinking, content production, and artistic practice.
SHIFT was more than a workshop about learning new tools. It was a space to question how we see our heritage, how we can reimagine it, and what happens when memory meets the algorithm.
