INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CAVES AND KARST

Following the 2021-2022 International Year of Caves and Karst, the International Union of Speleology (UIS) developed a proposal that UNESCO should designate 13th September each year as an International Day of Caves and Karst (IDCK) dedicated to raising global awareness of caves and karst landscapes. The proposal has been formally submitted to UNESCO by the Slovenian Ambassador and Permanent Delegate at UNESCO and will be considered by the Member States of the Executive Board at their autumn session, which will take place between 1 and 16 October 2025. The UK is a member of the Executive Board and the BCRA Chairman has contacted the UK National Commission for UNESCO requesting that our Ambassador supports the proposal. Anyone who has links to UNESCO, perhaps via a Geopark, is also encouraged to write to the UK National Commission. At the UIS General Assembly in Brazil it was agreed that we should celebrate the IDCK as a UIS event in 2025 in the hopeful anticipation of success at UNESCO and there is an excellent website (https://www.caveskarstday.org/) that provides further information.

S4 Speleothem Science Summerschool, is the best place to learn about the Speleothems, the high prestigious Summerschool will take place this time in Morocco from 20th to 26th October, therefore LNSO advice to apply for it before 15th of May.

يسرنا دعوتكم لحضور جلسة تشبيك مميزة تحت عنوان “التغير المناخي القديم وطرق قياسه”، يقدمها الدكتور بالقاسم فتحي الغرياني، الذي سيأخذنا في رحلة علمية لفهم تاريخ المناخ وتأثيراته المستقبلية.

ضمن قائمة أهم العيون الكارستية العالمية التابع ليونيسكو، والذي ستصدر قريباً، تمكن أحد أعضاء المنظمة ا. بالقاسم الغرياني من إضافة ثلاثة عيون كارستية للقائمة وهي: عين الزيانة، وعين شحات، وعين الدبوسية وذلك وفق المعايير التي وضعها الأتحاد الدولي لعلوم الهيدروجيولوجيا.
على المستوى الأقليمية هذه العيون هي الوحيدة من قارة أفريقيا، أما عربياً هناك عدد 2 عيون من لبنان، 1من الأردن، و1 من سوريا. Belkasem Fathi

Decorated caves vs Nondecorated caves
These terms are wide use in Caves world despite the different meaning in different aspects. and it became a criteria for caves classify in Archaeology and in Geology.
in Archaeology the decorate cave it is the cave with Inscriptions and drawings where in Geology point of view the decorated cave it is the cave who own speleothems such as stalactites and stalagmites..

Decorated caves and nondecorated caves
الكهوف المزخرفة والكهوف الغير مزخرفة:
هذه المصطلحات تستخدم بكثرة في عالم الكهوف وبصفة عامة تمكن أن تكون معير يتم من خلالها تقسيم الكهوف إلى نوعان أما مُزخرف أو غير مُزخرف إلا أن هناك اختلاف كبير ما بين علوم الآثار والجيولوجيا حول مفهوم المصطلح، حيث علم الآثار تعتبر النقوش والرسومات الحضارات هي المنطلق للتقسيم؛ بحيث الكهف الحاوي على الرسوم والنقوش هو الكهف المزخرف، بينما في علوم الجيولوجيا الكهف الذي يحتوي على تشكيلات صخرية معينة كا الصواعد والهوابط هو الكهف المُزخرف..

Climate change one of most important challenges thats face human, predicting climates requires understanding of Paleoclimate, Caves contain important proxies that used for reconstruction Paleoclimate. مما لا شك فيه أن التغير المناخي أحد أهم التحديات التي تواجه الانسان، أن تنبؤ بحال المناخ على مدى بعيد يحتاج إلى معرفة وفهم المناخ القديم، الكهوف تعتبر من أهم العناصر التي تسهم في أثراء المعرفة حول المناخ القديم؛ ولذلك لا تستغرب أن وجدت مثل هذه المعدات في الصور المرفقة التي وضعها فريق عملنا من أجل هذا الغرض.
