Latvian Youth Champion Democratic Engagement and Media Literacy at International Erasmus+ Exchange in Bulgaria!

In September 2025, young representatives from Latvia successfully completed "Active Citizens For a Better Future," an intensive Erasmus+ Youth Exchange aimed at equipping the next generation with the tools to navigate the digital age.

Taking place from September 1 to September 9, 2025, the project brought together young people from Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania. The Latvian delegation was led and organized by Latvijas jauniešu attīstības centrs (LJAC), a non-governmental organization dedicated to developing the personal and professional skills of young people through non-formal education.

Coordinated by the Bulgarian organization Social HUB, the week-long initiative addressed critical modern challenges, focusing heavily on media literacy, the detection of disinformation, and the fundamentals of active citizenship. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops, including a "Fake News Challenge" and an "Art for Democracy" session, designed to build critical thinking and responsible media consumption.

Witnessing Green Innovation in Oslo! 🇳🇴🌿

From June 26th to July 1st, the EYGC consortium gathered in Oslo for 4 highly productive project days! Hosted by Da Vinci Nordic, our teams from Latvia (LJAC) and Lithuania (MENDIZ) worked on Activity 3 - structuring our upcoming comprehensive Guidebook: 'How to create green workplaces in NGOs and SMEs'.
We spent our meeting days successfully structuring the core chapters, compiling best practices on digital hygiene and resource conservation, and mapping out actionable 'Eco-Eureka' solutions. This cross-border collaboration ensures our Guidebook will provide highly practical, step-by-step advice for modern organizations transitioning to sustainable operations.

To gather real-world case studies for our Guidebook, we also stepped out of the meeting room for a transnational exchange of good practices, visiting an inspiring local SME "About Contrasts Oslo".

During an exclusive presentation, we analyzed how they focus on specific, highly effective strategies:
🤝 Community Value: They operate on the "triple bottom line" (People, Planet, Profit) by acting as a cultural meeting point and prioritizing local economic collaboration.
🧠 Social Sustainability: They foster a truly human-centric workplace environment, actively prioritizing employee well-being, psychological safety and inclusion.
♻️ Green Operations: They operate a zero-waste, high-efficiency model through cross-utilization of ingredients to reduce resource waste, enforced by a prohibition on unnecessary single-use plastics.

Counting down to Oslo! ⏱️✈️🇳🇴

Today, June 22nd, the EYGC consortium held a highly productive online coordination call. We are currently deep into Activity 3, structuring the chapters and gathering best practices for our upcoming comprehensive e-book Guidebook: 'How to create green workplaces in NGOs and SMEs'.

But today’s call was extra special because it was our final virtual meeting before we take things offline!

Later this week, from June 26th to July 1st, the entire project team from Latvia 🇱🇻, Lithuania 🇱🇹 and Norway 🇳🇴 will be meeting face-to-face in Oslo, Norway! Hosted by our Norwegian partner, Da Vinci Nordic, this in-person mobility is a critical milestone for Activity 3.

We will be spending the week reviewing our collected data, participating in intensive workshops, and developing the practical content for the Guidebook - ensuring it perfectly addresses energy efficiency, waste reduction, and digital hygiene for modern workplaces.

On June 16-17, 2026, Latvijas jauniešu attīstības centrs proudly led the Final Evaluation Meeting of our Erasmus+ project, FEAT-DS, in Milan, Italy.

Representatives from all 5 partner organizations across Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Bulgaria and Italy came together to reflect on the incredible journey of our 30-month initiative. During this crucial meeting, we successfully collaborated to cover all administrative milestones, comprehensively evaluate our core outcomes in the field of adult education and strategize the sustainable future of our initiative!

Supported by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ programme, FEAT-DS (Electronics and Employability Advancement for Adults with Down Syndrome) is a robust cooperation partnership in adult education dedicated to fostering real-world skills, independence, and career opportunities.

Beyond our productive evaluations, a major highlight of the gathering was an inspiring study visit to "Pizzaut". This remarkable social enterprise is celebrated throughout Italy and the broader European Union for its unwavering dedication to involving people with special needs and providing them with meaningful employability. Their transformative model of inclusion is so impactful that they have been visited by the Pope, Presidents, and officially invited to the European Parliament!

During our time there, we were deeply honored when the director of Pizzaut took the floor to publicly introduce the FEAT-DS project and our international delegation to all the guests dining in the restaurant. This generous presentation served as a beautiful, real-world dissemination channel, perfectly aligning with our shared European values of inclusion, diversity and equality.

30. maijā "Latvijas Jauniešu Attīstības Centrs" (LJAC) veiksmīgi rīkoja iesaistošu vietējo darbnīcu Latvijā, kas ir viens no galvenajiem "Erasmus+" projekta "Medijpratība – atslēga uz kritisko domāšanu" (Media Literacy – The Key to Critical Thinking) stūrakmeņiem.

Mēs pulcējām aizrautīgu 10 jauno pieaugušo (vecumā no 25 līdz 40 gadiem) grupu intensīvai, praktiskai dienai, kas bija veltīta digitālās dezinformācijas apkarošanai, izkļūšanai no informācijas burbuļiem un avotu pārbaudes prasmju apgūšanai.

Darbnīcas spilgtākie notikumi:
- Faktu pārbaudes drāma: Dalībnieki iesaistījās teatrālā lomu spēlē (risinot ģimenes budžeta scenāriju), lai drošā vidē modelētu un analizētu, kā viltus ziņas manipulē ar cilvēku emocijām.
- ESC metode (Emocijas, Avots, Apgalvojums - Emotions, Source, Claim): Mēs nodrošinājām praktisku, pakāpen*sku sistēmu, lai apturētu emocionālos trigerus, novērtētu avota uzticamību un savstarpēji pārbaudītu apšaubāmus apgalvojumus internetā.
- Digitālais safari: Jaunapgūtās ESC sistēmas pielietošana, lai reāllaikā pārbaudītu aktuālās sociālo mediju saites.

Vietējo dalībnieku enerģija un iesaiste bija fenomenāla. Aprīkojot pieaugušos izglītojamos ar šiem viegli pielāgojamajiem rīkiem, mēs speram vitāli svarīgus soļus ceļā uz sabiedrības izglītošanu pamata līmenī, tādējādi veidojot kritiskāk domājošu un medijpratīgāku sabiedrību.

Liels paldies mūsu aktīvajiem dalībniekiem un starptautiskajiem partneriem - "Rajs Enterprise" (Polija) un "Asociația Se Poate" (Rumānija) - par nepārtrauktu šo iedarbīgo metodoloģiju apmaiņu!

The final chapter begins! 📖🌿

On June 3rd, the EYGC partners from Latvia 🇱🇻, Norway 🇳🇴 and Lithuania 🇱🇹 jumped on a consortium call to officially kick off our third and final project milestone: Activity 3!

After successfully launching our Green Audit (https://eygc.eu/the-green-audit/) and the Green Actions Generator (https://eygc.eu/green-actions-generator/), we are now taking all that data and experience to develop our most comprehensive resource yet: an e-book Guidebook titled 'How to create green workplaces in NGOs and SMEs'.

Led by our Norwegian partner, Da Vinci Nordic, this comprehensive manual will serve as a step-by-step curriculum for transitioning your workspace. We will be gathering best practices and diving deep into practical solutions across several key areas:
✅ Digital Practices: From minimizing your digital carbon footprint to paperless workflows.
✅ Resource Conservation & Energy Efficiency: Maximizing natural light and reducing utility consumption.
✅ Waste Reduction: Applying the less/zero waste concept in daily operations.
✅ 'Eco-Eureka': Weekly actionable ideas for greening company processes!

Next step, our teams will be collaborating and preparing for our upcoming in-person meeting in Oslo, Norway, to finalize the design and content.

On May 27, 2026, Latvijas jauniešu attīstības centrs hosted the dissemination conference for the Erasmus+ FEAT-DS project in Latvia. We were glad to welcome over 50 attendees to the event, which brought together our core target groups: adult educators, adult learners with Down syndrome, and representatives from NGOs and adult learning centers.

The main goal of the FEAT-DS project is to empower adults with Down syndrome by teaching them electronics skills, which helps improve their employment potential and self-esteem. This conference gave us a practical opportunity to share the tools our team has developed to support that mission.

The day was structured to provide clear information and encourage open discussion. We presented the primary deliverables to the audience:
- An introduction to the online learning programme.
- A clear description of the Training Format.
- A practical look at the Web Platform.
- Direct testimonials from the adult educators and learners with Down syndrome who participated in the project's activities.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend and contribute to a constructive day. The resources created through this project are now available to help build more inclusive educational and professional environments.

May has been a monumental month for the Empowering Youth for Green Careers (EYGC) project! Following rigorous internal review and technical testing, we are thrilled to announce that the main deliverable for Activity 2 - the Green Actions Generator - is officially deployed and accessible on our project website.
This interactive tool is designed to bridge the gap between environmental policy and daily practice. If our previous Green Audit was the "diagnosis", this new Generator is the "prescription". By inputting specific organizational details, SMEs and NGOs are now provided with a tailored, generated list of actions based on the '9R' principles.
Whether you are a local youth center in Latvia or a small service provider, you can now access concrete, step-by-step guidance to optimize your processes and reduce your carbon footprint. Prezentējam Erasmus+ projekta „Media Literacy – The Key to Critical Thinking” (ID: 2024-2-PL01-KA210-ADU-000291364) noslēguma rezultātus. Ciešā sadarbībā ar projekta koordinatoriem Rajs Enterprise no Polijas un partneriem Asociația Se Poate no Rumānijas, mūsu organizācija Latvijā (LJAC) ir palīdzējusi izstrādāt vitāli svarīgu rīku mūsdienu digitālajai videi.

Ko jūs atradīsiet „Good Practices” rokasgrāmatā?
- Vietējā faktu pārbaude jeb „Debunk in 30 Seconds”: Mūsu Latvijas komandas izstrādātā metode, kas māca dalībniekiem veidot īso video formāta saturu (Reels/TikTok), lai ātri atspēkotu viltus ziņas un piesaistītu auditoriju.
- ESC metode (Emotions, Source, Content): Pieeja, kas māca lietotājiem ieturēt „kognitīvo pauzi” – sākot ar emociju izvērtējumu, kam seko avota pārbaude un padziļināta satura analīze.

Digitālā pasaule attīstās ļoti strauji, tāpēc spēja atšķirt faktus no manipulācijām ir kļuvusi svarīgāka nekā jebkad agrāk. Lai risinātu šo problēmu, 12 aizrautīgi pieaugušo izglītības speciālisti no Polijas, Latvijas un Rumānijas nesen pulcējās Čenstohovā (Częstochowa), Polijā, uz intensīvu "Erasmus+" apmācību nedēļu (16/03/2026 - 21/03/2026), lai izstrādātu praktiskus aizsardzības mehānismus pret viltus ziņām.

Šīs apmācību nedēļas, ko koordinēja "Rajs Enterprise", galvenais uzsvars tika likts uz kultūras, teorijas un reālas rīcības apvienošanu. Tas viss norisinājās "Erasmus+" projekta "Medijpratība – kritiskās domāšanas atslēga" (Media Literacy – The Key to Critical Thinking, ID: 2024-2-PL01-KA210-ADU-000291364) ietvaros.

Mēs sākām tur, kur vietējais kultūras mantojums satiekas ar kritisko domāšanu – ar mācību vizīti ikoniskajā "Jasna Góra". Pēc tam, kad bijām izvērtējuši mūsu iepriekšējā projekta posma panākumus Rumānijā, mēs apvienojām savas daudzveidīgās starptautiskās prasmes, izmantojot "Suitcase" metodi. Jau otrajā dienā mēs padziļināti analizējām maldināšanas tehnikas, izmantojot "Faktu pārbaudes drāmas" vingrinājumus, un mācījāmies reāllaikā atspēkot dezinformāciju. Šo teorētisko darbu lieliski papildināja un ar reālo praksi sasaistīja laikraksta "Życie Częstochowy i Powiatu" galvenā redaktore Terēze Šajere, kura mums sniedza neatsveramu ieskatu vietējo mediju darbībā no iekšienes.

Taču pats spilgtākais nedēļas notikums bija ESC metodes pielietošana praksē tieši Čenstohovas ielās. Intervējot vietējos iedzīvotājus par to, kā viņi orientējas informācijas plūsmā, mēs apkopojām reālās dzīves datus.

Nedēļu noslēdzām ar darbnīcu par EPALE – Eiropas pieaugušo izglītības sirdi – un izstrādājām rezultātu izplatīšanas ceļvedi.
