🌱On 22 September, students from Lithuania and the Nordic countries will come together in Jonava for the “Taste of the Future” festival to explore food waste, sustainable consumption and the role young people can play in creating change.

🍽️The event at Jonavos Senamiesčio gimnazija is the result of a collaboration between our project “Food for Future” and the Nordplus Junior project “Living in a Consumer Society”, bringing together schools and participants from Lithuania, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland.

During the day, students will give presentations on food waste reduction practices in different countries, take part in an interactive quiz and learn about food rescue and volunteering in Lithuania.

🥄The programme will also bring together experts from Lithuania, Latvia and Denmark for a panel discussion, “From Seed to the Last Bite: Tackling Food Waste Across the Nordic-Baltic Region”, followed by a hands-on workshop with chef Ina Poliscenko, Founder of the Latvian Pastry Association.

The event is an opportunity for young people to exchange ideas across borders and explore how everyday choices can contribute to a more sustainable future. 🌍

🎉We’re excited to support RIGA IFF / Riga International Film Festival and celebrate the remarkable success of "Woman Unknown" (dir. May el-Toukhy) - a co-production of Denmark, Sweden and Latvia.
🏆The film, which was mostly shot in Riga, was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival, with Matilde Arsela also receiving the Best Actress award.
🎥 There will be a chance to see the film in Riga as it makes its Baltic premiere at the RIGA IFF opening night on 15 October.

🌳Last week in Palanga, architects, researchers and heritage experts from Denmark, Lithuania and Latvia explored how timber architecture, natural materials and local knowledge can shape more sustainable and climate-responsive approaches to architecture.

🏡The symposium served as a platform for sharing expertise around circular construction, material reuse and resilient heritage.

This September, the Palanga Summer Reading Pavilion marks its 60th anniversary with an international symposium, bringing together experts from Denmark, Lithuania and Latvia to exchange perspectives on architecture, heritage conservation, landscape design and sustainable construction. 🇩🇰 🇱🇹 🇱🇻

💡 The symposium invites us to look beyond preservation opening up new possibilities for modernist timber architecture and exploring its evolving role in cultural life.

The event is part of “A Year with Denmark”, a series of events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Denmark’s decision to recognise the restoration of Lithuania’s independence.

Dansk Kulturinstitut i Østersøregionen søger to praktikanter til seks måneders praktik i perioden 1. februar–31. juli 2027, med fleksibilitet i forhold til den enkeltes studieordning og eksamensperioder. 📍 Kontoret ligger i Riga, men arbejdet omfatter projekter i alle tre baltiske lande 🇱🇻 🇱🇹 🇪🇪

Som praktikant bliver du en aktiv del af et lille, dynamisk team, og dine opgaver spænder bredt: koordinering og research, PR og indhold til sociale medier, tekster til hjemmesider, fondsansøgninger samt planlægning og afvikling af kulturprojekter. Projekterne dækker både klassisk kulturudveksling som filmfestivaler og kunstudstillinger, og mere samfundsorienterede temaer som grøn omstilling, civilsamfund og demokrati.

Vi lægger vægt på, at du:
• Studerer på en relevant videregående uddannelse
• Interesserer dig for baltiske forhold og kultur
• Kan kommunikere professionelt på dansk og engelsk, både skriftligt og mundtligt (andre sprog, som tales i regionen, er en fordel)

🇩🇰 🇱🇻 Internship at the Danish Cultural Institute in the Baltic Sea Region – Spring 2027

The Danish Cultural Institute in the Baltic Sea Region is looking for two interns for a six-month internship period from 1 February–31 July 2027, with flexibility to accommodate university requirements and exam periods. 📍 Our office is located in Riga, but our work spans projects across all three Baltic states 🇱🇻 🇱🇹 🇪🇪

As an intern, you'll become an active part of a small, dynamic team. Your tasks will range widely: coordination and research, PR and content for social media, website texts, funding applications, and planning and ex*****on of cultural projects. Our projects cover both classic cultural exchange, such as film festivals and art exhibitions, and more society-oriented themes such as green transition, civil society, and democracy.

We're looking for candidates who:
• Are enrolled in a relevant higher education programme
• Have an interest in Baltic affairs and culture
• Can communicate professionally in Danish and English, both written and spoken (knowledge of languages spoken in the region is an advantage)
• Can work independently and have a good overview
• Have an interest in or knowledge of culture and/or international cooperation

Tomorrow in Tartu 🇪🇪🧶

📍On 3 September at 16:00, Danish knitwear designer Helga Isager will give a talk at Eesti Rahva Muuseum / Estonian National Museum in Tartu, offering audiences an insight into her distinctive approach to knitwear design, rooted in craftsmanship, contemporary aesthetics, and, most recently, the legacy of the Bauhaus.

For more than two decades, Helga Isager has been a leading voice in Nordic textile design, known for combining traditional knitting techniques with a refined contemporary sensibility. Her 1919 Collection, inspired by extensive research into the work of Bauhaus artists, reflects the movement’s geometric clarity, colour theory and spirit of experimentation. 🔴 🟨 🔷

Continuing our cooperation as part of the exhibition programme “The Whole World is Bauhaus” supported by Goethe-Institut Estland, the designer will also lead a workshop in Tallinn on 5 September, 12:00–15:00, at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design Eesti Tarbekunsti- ja Disainimuuseum.

Looking back at Diskusijų festivalis „Būtent!“! 📷👇

Our discussion with Danish and Lithuanian experts, “How Can Culture Drive Societal Resilience?”, moderated by our Director Anna Enemark, highlighted key themes:
▪️ Culture creates connection - shared practices like singing can strengthen belonging and trust.
▪️ Cultural institutions can build resilience through dialogue, countering polarization and disinformation, and reaching out to disengaged groups.
▪️ Learning about each other’s history matters - and is especially important at a time when historical manipulation is part of disinformation campaigns.
▪️There are opportunities for closer Nordic – Baltic cooperation and we can learn a lot from each other.

🧰➕Inspired by our Cultural First Aid Kit, the Cultural Prepping workshop invited participants to consider which cultural values, practices and experiences they can rely upon in times of pressure and change and how creativity can help us stay connected and hopeful.
