Meet Kristīne – Volunteer at Our Family Support Center!
Kristīne is characterised by determination, generosity, and openness to the world around her. Since childhood, Kristīne has dreamed of one day going to Africa to help children. Although Kristīne has had mobility difficulties since birth, she hasn’t allowed that to stop her:
“I am able to help others with that which I’m able to do.” – says Kristīne.
For several years now, she has been an active volunteer with Hope For Children (Cerība Bērniem). Kristīne compares her volunteering to building a house –little by little and she began to see how her contribution could truly help others.
Her greatest reward is seeing the joy and gratitude on people’s faces after they receive support – this is the most powerful form of feedback for her.
Kristīne also wants to encourage others – what we are given is not given for granted:
“Volunteering is not just what I do here in the organisation. It begins with stepping out of your daily routine – it begins at home. We live in times when neighbours often don’t even know each other’s names. You can start with a simple ‘hello’ or maybe buy a loaf of bread for an elderly person sometime. You can always help by doing something for someone that they are unable to do themselves.
Thank you, Kristīne, for your unwavering dedication and heartfelt support to the Family Centre over the years!
