✨“My work often engages with questions of socio-economic conditions and individual agency. My own experiences, as well as the effort to see them in a broader context, are often the driving forces behind the content of my work. (..) I continue to believe in the necessity of art’s language.”✨ (Liene Pavlovska)

In her visual essay “Unit of Measure — Starting Point,” Liene Pavlovska traces how personal experience meets structural realities. Through an eclectic collage of materials and spatial sensibility, she searches for ways art can hold vulnerability, resistance and healing.

Part of “WunderKombināts. Piekļuve / Access.”

✨“(..) piekļūstamība nenozīmē mākslas darba nozīmes skaidrošanu vai mēģinājumu to interpretēt.

✨“(..) accessibility is not about explaining an artwork’s meaning or trying to interpret it. Instead, it’s a probing gesture, trying to open art up, for oneself and for others, as a place to go and think.”✨
(An Paenhuysen)

In her essay “A Place to Go and Think – how to talk about art,” writer, curator, and art educator An Paenhuysen has assembled a collection of moments in which access to art is probed through voice, storytelling, hesitation, conversation, and the inability to fully articulate what fascinates us.

This essay is part of the WunderKombinat publication “Piekļuve / Access.”

✨“Through use, public space acquires a purpose: groups of its users are formed, and the place becomes their own and recognisable to them.”✨
(Lina Michelkevičė)

In the essay “Access to What? Some Thoughts on the Meaning of Accessibility in Urban and Cultural Politics,” art and cultural researcher Lina Michelkevičė reveals how accessibility can serve both inclusion and political maneuvering, and how the unity of a cultural community translates into real influence.

The essay is part of the WunderKombinat publication “Piekļuve / Access”.
