Ja es būtu dabas parādība, es būtu ziemeļblāzma, jo tā ir pilnīgi neprognozējama. Nekad nevar zināt, kurā brīdī tā parādīsies un kādās krāsās iemirdzīsies, bet ir skaidrs - tā noteikti būs spilgta un izgaismos jebkuru nakti.

Kā sākās mans ceļš Re:view?

Viss sākās ar Erasmus+ jauniešu apmaiņu Nīderlandē, kur devos kā grupas līdere, vēl neko nezinot par Re:view. Šis projekts kļuva par labāko pieredzi manā dzīvē! Kad uzzināju par tikšanos nākamajiem dalībniekiem, kuri brauks uz šo pašu projektu - man ļoti gribējās atnākt un padalīties ar savu pieredzi. Tieši tur es pirmo reizi satiku Maratu un pārējos - sajūta bija tik mājīga, silta un pieņemoša, it kā būtu atbraukusi ciemos pie omītes 💛 Tajā brīdī sapratu, ka kādreiz es noteikti būšu daļa no viņiem. Un re - gadu vēlāk esmu klāt!

Ko es šeit daru?

Šobrīd visbiežāk nodarbojos ar dalībnieku atlasi jauniešu apmaiņām. Tas ir darbs ar plānošanu, koordinēšanu, nepārtrauktu komunikāciju un pacietību. Pati skaistākā šī procesa daļa ir milzīgā empātija, mīlestība un pateicība, ko saņemu no jauniešiem, kurus palīdzu nosūtīt projektos. Tas man dod enerģiju un iedvesmu iet tālāk!

Tuvākajā laikā plānoju arī noorganizēt kādu klātienes pasākumu, lai pārvarētu savas iekšējās bailes un vēl vairāk attīstītu līderības prasmes.

The last day of SMELLS LIKE GREEN SPIRIT was full of gratitude.❤️

Gratitude for each other. For our venue and the owners of Pļavnas. For the beautiful nature surrounding us. For the amazing food made by Ilze Vilciņa | Privātais šefpavārs | Kūku cepēja and Rota Mārīte Strazda | Zemapziņas mentore . For the project team. For the programme created by our facilitators. For the national teams inputs to the program. And for all the big and small moments that made this week feel so special.☀️

Almost every day we asked: “Can it get any better?”
And somehow, again and again, it did.💫

The team is especially grateful for the kindness of our participants. For the way people looked after one another, listened with respect, helped out and made space for everyone.🫂

One participant described this experience as “a gift that will keep giving.” And that feels very true.🎁

Because these memories are not only about fun times and knowledge. They can become reminders of what is possible when people choose courage, kindness and trust. How we can be with others. How we can celebrate each other. How we can care for the environment and the communities around us.🥰

In the end, this project may have been built around nature and sustainability, but what grew from it was much bigger than that. 🌱

It became a community shaped by support, curiosity and the ability to see the best in one another.🏵

And maybe that is why projects like this stay with us. They give us not only new knowledge, but also a deeper way of seeing the person in front of us, and a stronger belief in what we can create together.🙏

And that is something worth carrying back into our homes, our communities and our everyday lives.🏘

We started DAY 7 of SMELLS LIKE GREEN SPIRIT by bringing yesterday’s outdoor adventure back to life. Sharing the best stories, laughing about the unexpected moments and giving the experience the attention it deserved.

After such an intense day, we chose not to rush.🏵

The morning was slow and quiet. Some went for a walk, others journaled, some ran, and a few even jumped in the cold lake to get refreshment. A little space to integrate everything that had happened.

In the afternoon, creativity took over.🥳

In teams, participants created short videos with one goal - to inspire other young people to live more sustainably, take greener actions and feel more connected with nature. 🌱

The process was full of brainstorming, filming, experimenting, a lot of laughter, and later we watched all the videos together on the big screen.📽

The cherry on top of the day was a warm and cozy gathering to open the compliment envelope. 💌Throughout the week participants wrote little notes about the good things they noticed in each other, and now it was time to read them out loud and let those words be heard by the whole group.😊

It became a beautiful moment of appreciation, reminding us how powerful it can be to simply notice something good in someone and say it out loud.🫂

After that, we ended the day with an amazing Czech cultural night. 🇨🇿 Presentation, dances, sweet treats and even freshly made garlic bread prepared by the team themselves.🍞

This was a day to slow down, create, share and turn our experiences into something that can inspire others too.☀️

DAY 6 of SMELLS LIKE GREEN SPIRIT was completely different from everything we had experienced before. 👀

This time, participants were not given a programme to follow, they were challenged to create the experience themselves.

The story? 😏💥
The Green Spirit had disappeared, and somehow participants had to find it again. 😰

After passing through a very dramatic “magic portal” - blindfolds and car ride (with techno music included😅) participants opened their eyes somewhere in the Latvian countryside, around 8 km from our venue.🐂🤠

Their mission was to find the way back before evening and complete 29 challenges along the way. They had 7 hours to do it. Some challenges were silly, and some pushed them to connect with local people.

Being in "the real world" outside of our predictable routines and structured program really created the best stories.

🚜 For someone, it was the first time driving a tractor.
🥔 One group helped harvest potatoes, and later called the meal they made from them “the best potatoes of our lives.”
🌱 Others helped an elderly woman w**d her garden and saved her hours of work.
🌧️ Some ended up walking through heavy rain, having those unexpectedly deep conversations that somehow only happen when you are far from comfort.

By the end of the day, participants came back with much more than completed challenges.🥳

They discovered that asking strangers for help is often less scary than expected. That latvian people can be surprisingly welcoming. And that the stories worth remembering usually begin when you don’t know exactly what is going to happen next.😁

The day ended with rain, thunder, wet clothes, AND a lot of big, big smiles.😊

And the Green Spirit?
We found it.🙌

Turns out, it was never really something hidden somewhere in the forest. It came alive through the courage to explore, connect, help, get uncomfortable and create something meaningful out of the unknown. ☀️

DAY 5 of SMELLS LIKE GREEN SPIRIT continued with workshops created and facilitated by the national teams.😊

🇨🇿 Czechia | Debate challenge
The Czech team brought us into a fictional town with €20 million to invest and four groups with very different priorities. The challenge was to defend our own interests, understand other perspectives and negotiate a solution that would benefit both the community and the environment.

After several days of practical and relaxing activities, this one really put our thinking to work.🧠

🇬🇷 Greece | Preserving fruits
The Greek team introduced us to spoon sweets - a traditional treat made by slowly cooking fruit in sugar syrup so it can be enjoyed long after the season ends. 🍎🥄 With autumn bringing so much fruit, it felt like truly useful practise to learn.

We are extremely grateful for the owners of our venue Pļavnas for providing us with their apples and plums.🙏

However, these workshops were not only about having fun and sharing ideas. They were also a chance to work as a team, step into a facilitator role, prepare something from scratch and stand in front of the group to lead it.😎

To learn from the experience, each national team took time to reflect. What went well? What would we change? What did we learn about working together? 🤝

In the end we acknowledged how enriching these workshops had been. 🌱

We didn’t only leave with new ideas about reusing, preserving and looking at environmental issues from different perspectives. Everyone got the chance to bring something of their own to the group, and that is where the real exchange happened.💥

And that is one of the most beautiful parts of projects like this - not only taking part and receiving new knowledge, but also giving something of ourselves, stepping forward, building confidence and staying open to what others bring.☀️

Nature takes care of us, but how can we take care of nature? 🌿

During the first three days of SMELLS LIKE GREEN SPIRIT, we explored what nature can give us.

On DAY 4, we switched the focus to how can we take better care of nature in the way we live. For two days each national team is leading a workshop on how to be more sustainable. Today, three teams took over:

🇪🇸 Spain | Upcycling
Instead of throwing old T-shirts away, we turned them into reusable bags. Recycling usually breaks materials down to create something new, but upcycling gives an existing object a new purpose.
One old T-shirt = one less new bag needed.

We also used fresh flowers from the field to create natural pigment prints on white T-shirts by hammering the flowers directly into the fabric. 🌸🔨

🇱🇻 Latvia | What happens to our leftovers?
We realised how often we cook too much, forget food in the fridge or throw away ingredients that could still be used. Together, we explored solutions - planning portions, freezing leftovers, using older ingredients first and turning yesterday’s food into a new meal.

🇮🇹 Italy | A little gift to nature
Clay + soil + wildflower seeds = seed balls. 🌸
Small enough to carry with you, but with the potential to bring more flowers,and add biodiversity to the environment. Basically, everyone left the workshop carrying a tiny possibility for new life.

These workshops reminded us that being sustainable in our individual lifes can start with simply noticing new ways to use what we already have, and taking small actions - like planting a seed.

After the productive day, it was time to gather around the fire.🔥

Vegetarian “sojšļiks” (soy meat for grilling), veggies and, of course, marshmallows. The sountrack slowly evolved from barbeque chill mix into something very, very close to rave festival, ending with playing guitar and singing “Riptide”, “House of the Rising Sun” and other classics around the bonfire. 🌿🔥🎶

What if grounding didn’t mean sitting still? 🌿

DAY 3 of SMELLS LIKE GREEN SPIRIT was all about exploring different ways to ground, connect and nourish ourselves.😌

We started with real tasks in nature - collecting wood in the forest, picking sea buckthorn and doing some gardening. Nothing extraordinary, and that was exactly the point! ☀️

Working with our hands became a way to connect with each other, create fun moments and open up meaningful conversations. 🧘‍♂️

Sometimes a shared task, a clear purpose and the satisfaction of seeing what you’ve done can feel waaay better than another hour of entertainment.⚡️

Then we let our inner children take over. 😈🌲

1 forest playground

People were running, hiding, climbing trees, getting dirty, teasing each other and strategising like their lives depended on it. 💥
A little competition, a lot of adrenaline and fresh forest air - what else do you need to feel fully alive? 🤩

By evening, the energy completely changed.💫

We slowed down and entered the forest through our five senses, giving time to notice what we could hear, see, smell, touch and taste. With the sound of a handpan in the background, the forest became richer and somehow much easier to notice.🌳

And the final layer of grounding?

Sauna. 🔥🌿

We made our own sauna brooms and stepped into the heat together. For some it was familiar, for others a completely new challenge, but by the end, everyone came out deeply relaxed.😌

DAY 3 reminded us that grounding can look like many things if you simply pay attention to where you are.

What can the nature actually give us? 🌿

Day 2 of Smells Like Green Spirit was about stepping into nature and discovering how its resources can support our mental and physical well-being.

We started with a forest “excursio, but definitely not just a walk. Through plant bingo, we searched for more than 16 different natural resources: edible mushrooms, berries, birch leaves for sauna, wild peppermint and even oregano for pizza. 🍄🫐🌱

Afterwards, we researched what we had found and created learning cards to share the knowledge with each other. For many participants, it was the first time discovering how useful some of these plants actually are.🍀

We also compared what grows in our different countries - a small reminder that nature gives us different treasures depending on where we are, and they are worth noticing.🌼

Later, our teamwork was put to the test. We practised communicating our needs, recognising our strengths and figuring out how to work better together.🤝

And the ending?
Italian cultural night with real Parmigiano, lots of energy and some very lively traditional dancing. 💃🕺
