In 1947, a remarkable friendship blossomed between Mary Elvinger and Katherine Dupong, two young American women married to Luxembourgers. Their chance encounter with another English-speaking woman in a local store sparked the idea for AWCL. Motivated by a shared vision, Mary and Kathy teamed up with Marie Taylor, whose husband was the First Secretary of the American Embassy. With support from club leaders across Europe, they formalized the creation of the American Women's Club of Luxembourg after several pivotal meetings, including one in Paris. Today, AWCL stands as a testament to friendship, collaboration, and the desire to make a difference. We honor our founders by extending a warm welcome to newcomers and providing a nurturing environment where friendships are forged, experiences are shared, and support is readily available.
