Founded in 1980 as an “Organization of Public Utility” in Luxembourg, the organization was granted the official status of non governmental organization (NGO) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991. Based in Luxembourg City, the foundation is recognized and supported by the Government of Luxembourg through its generous co-financing policy. The foundation has gained the trust and confidence of m

any private, public and organizational donors through the nature of the supported projects as well as through its effective and transparent management of donations. One of our operating guidelines is that we don't consider the local people as passive recipients of the development process; our projects safeguard the right of each people to be the protagonists of their own development. Development activity emerges from within a community and belongs to the people and institutions that are implementing the effort. The Foundation supports educational endeavors in Africa, Latin America and Asia that seek to:

- Empower communities to take charge of their own educational needs.

- Foster the moral and intellectual development of the younger generation.

- Build the capacity of a growing number of community members to contribute to creating a better world.

- Encourage the generation and application of knowledge in building a peaceful and prosperous society.

- Promote the role of women in participating equally in the affairs of their community.

On Friday, May 29, CORDE, our partner organisation in Cambodia, had the privilege of participating in a meeting organised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade (MFA) of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg in Phnom Penh.

The Luxembourg Aid & Development delegation, composed of Mr Thomas Lammar (Chargé d’affaires a.i. at the Embassy of Luxembourg in Laos), Ms Undraa Bayanaa (Asia Desk) and Mr Fränk Peiffer (Head of Development Cooperation), as well as Mr Robert de Waha (Regional Representative of LuxDev LuxDev - Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency) and Ms Cynthia Rutare (Designated Country Manager for LuxDev - Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency in Cambodia), convened a meeting at the Mith Samlanh Centre with representatives of four partner NGOs supported by Luxembourg, among them Mr Sopheap Hou, Executive Director of CORDE.

This space provided an enriching opportunity for the organisations active in Cambodia to share approaches and experiences on their respective areas of work. Mr Hou highlighted CORDE’s focus on building the capacities of individuals and communities to become protagonists of their own development, rather than relying on centralised service delivery. More specifically, he illustrated this in the context of the Preparation for Social Action and Community School programs.

In the context of our current framework agreement (accord-cadre) with the MFA for the period from 2022 to 2026, Unity Foundation continues to support CORDE’s educational programs through a partnership that dates back to 2015.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Luxembourg Aid & Development for creating spaces that foster dialogue among organisations working to build stronger communities.

What role does development cooperation play in today’s world?

Our President, Fernand Schaber, joined RTL Lëtzebuerg ’s “Background am Gespréich” on 25/04/2026, alongside Georges Ternes, Director of Luxembourg Aid & Development, Nicole Ikuku, Director Cercle de Coopération des ONG, and Denise Richard, Director partage.lu , to discuss the role of development cooperation in today’s global context.

As Fernand Schaber noted: cooperation provides not only hope to millions of people worldwide but also very concrete, long-term, sustainable solutions.

Development cooperation remains a key pillar of Luxembourg’s international engagement, reflecting the importance of sustained collective efforts to address global inequalities and long-term development challenges. At its core, it is about people, partnerships, and shared responsibility in creating more equal opportunities for the future.

At Unity Foundation, we see every day how cooperation takes shape in practice and creates concrete opportunities.

Grateful for 15 years of continuous support and collaboration!

We are deeply thankful to Linklaters for their generous €12,000 donation, complemented by an additional €1,500. This comes as a result of our longstanding collaboration, particularly in the context of the .

In only 10 days, 40 motivated runners will take to the streets of Luxembourg as part of the Unity Foundation–Linklaters team in support of our educational projects, marking the 15th consecutive year of this beautiful collaboration.
