Founded in 1980 as an “Organization of Public Utility” in Luxembourg, the organization was granted the official status of non governmental organization (NGO) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991. Based in Luxembourg City, the foundation is recognized and supported by the Government of Luxembourg through its generous co-financing policy. The foundation has gained the trust and confidence of many private, public and organizational donors through the nature of the supported projects as well as through its effective and transparent management of donations. One of our operating guidelines is that we don't consider the local people as passive recipients of the development process; our projects safeguard the right of each people to be the protagonists of their own development. Development activity emerges from within a community and belongs to the people and institutions that are implementing the effort. The Foundation supports educational endeavors in Africa, Latin America and Asia that seek to:

- Empower communities to take charge of their own educational needs.

- Foster the moral and intellectual development of the younger generation.

- Build the capacity of a growing number of community members to contribute to creating a better world.

- Encourage the generation and application of knowledge in building a peaceful and prosperous society.

- Promote the role of women in participating equally in the affairs of their community.

On this World Teachers’ Day, we are delighted to share that our partner organisation in Uganda, Kimanya-Ngeyo Foundation for Science and Education, was selected as one of the finalists for the ninth UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development!

Created in 2008 to support the improvement of teaching and learning quality toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4, the Prize’s award ceremony took place today in Paris as part of UNESCO’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations.

Kimanya’s “Learning to Learn Teacher Development Program” (LtL) was among the ten selected initiatives at the forefront of efforts to advance education quality worldwide, offering innovative solutions to the challenges faced by teachers, learners and their communities.

LtL is based on the PSA program developed by our partner Fundaec, which we currently support under our framework agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg.

LtL has been shown to improve teaching quality and student learning outcomes in underserved primary and secondary schools. Implemented in three districts in Uganda, the program has reached 2,500 teachers since 2015, and we hope to extend our support to LtL under a new framework agreement currently being prepared for 2027-2031.

Congratulations to the winners of the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize, to Kimanya and to all the other finalists for their outstanding work!

We wish all educators a happy World Teachers’ Day: “Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.”

A big thank you to everyone who made the Route du Vin a success! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Once again, Urban Trail Luxembourg chose Unity Foundation as the event’s sole beneficiary. Thanks to the generosity of the runners and organizers, €7,134.25 was raised in support of our projects. Thank you to Route du Vin, Urban Trail Luxembourg and all the runners for your great support! 🙏

And a special thank you to our 26 wonderful volunteers, whose energy and commitment helped us run two refreshment stations and contribute to the safety of the marathon route throughout the day 🩵

When you join the Unity Open, you become part of something bigger: this year again, Unity Open contributions go directly to support the educational programs of our partner Ahdieh Foundation in the Central African Republic.

Their work spans three lines of action: Community Schools, which bring education to children in several regions of the country, particularly in remote areas where few or no schools exist; the Preparation for Social Action (PSA) program, which strengthens the capacities of youth and adults in language, mathematics, science, and processes of community life, including agriculture, health and environmental conservation; and a Training Center, which extends learning from the community schools program to organizations across the wider region.

Together, these programs build the capacity of communities to take charge of their own development!
