In times of crisis, solidarity brings us together
Solidarité Luxembourg-Cuba participated at the end of May in the General Assembly of mediCuba-Europe, held in Bellinzona. It was a great success. Besides strengthening the cohesion among our member organizations, it reaffirmed our shared commitment to intensify our efforts, consolidate our ongoing projects, and launch new initiatives that respond to the urgent needs of Cuba's public health system.
One of our current priorities is the supply of essential medicines, whose shortage is seriously affecting healthcare throughout the country. In recent weeks, we have managed to organize significant purchases of oncology medicines, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and other essential drugs for pediatric hospitals and specialized healthcare institutions.
Among our new initiatives is a campaign to provide blood glucose meters (glucometers), which we introduce in this newsletter. At the same time, we are working to create the conditions for a future project dedicated to the supply of coronary stents, addressing a growing need within the Cuban healthcare system.
Another strategic priority remains the development of solar energy projects for hospitals and healthcare facilities. Ensuring a stable electricity supply today means safeguarding the operation of operating theatres, intensive care units, laboratories, and emergency services. In the context of Cuba's severe energy crisis, further aggravated by the coercive measures imposed by the United States, these projects represent a concrete contribution to protecting the right to health and to life.
In this newsletter, you will also find a brief update on the current situation in Cuba from our coordinator in Havana, Manuel Vanegas.
The coming months will be decisive for Cuba's future. The Cuban people continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience, but they need the support of international solidarity.
For this reason, mediCuba-Europe will continue to participate actively in solidarity initiatives across Europe while working tirelessly, including throughout the summer, to implement our ongoing projects as quickly as possible.
We need your support. Every contribution matters and can make a real difference in the lives of thousands of patients. Together, let us continue turning solidarity into action.
