🇧🇬 Four women. Four battles. And none of them is fighting just for a medal.

Olympic boxing champion Stoyka Krasteva returns to the ring after walking away from it twice. Wrestler Bilyana Dudova carries the weight of a childhood marked by poverty and loss. Martial arts legend Daisy Lang leaves Hollywood to meet her childhood admirer for the first time. And former footballer turned actress Martina Apostolova discovers that talent alone does not make the road ahead any easier.

In “The March of the Amazons”, director Borislav Kolev takes us beyond the arenas and into the lives of four women who have learned that strength comes in many forms.

From sport to motherhood, injury, prejudice and starting over, these are stories about refusing to let circumstances decide how far you can go.

✨ The HISTOFEST. History on Full Blast history festival starts today and features, among others, for the second time in a row a small but carefully curated film section.

Last year these were two films from our focus region, “Nicolae” by French-Romanian visual artist and director Mihai Grecu and “Tito Among the Serbs for the Second Time” by film veteran Želimir Žilnik. Together, we brought Želimir’s newest film, “Eighty Plus”, to audiences in Luxembourg at the 2025 edition of CinEast.

This year, Histofest features the Luxembourg premiere of “Berlin Hero” by the acclaimed German director Wolfgang Becker, as well as Polish director Michał Toczek’s “Be Somebody” and “Spiritus Sanctus”, which will be also screened at CinEast during the Short Fiction Films Marathon - North.

🏀 Too tall for the farm. Just right for the basketball court?

In “Ulya”, a teenage girl growing up on a remote farm in Soviet Latvia is used to standing out. Then a class photo catches the eye of basketball coaches, and suddenly Ulya is on her way to Riga to join a famous team.

Inspired by the early life of legendary Latvian basketball player Ulyana Semjonova, Viesturs Kairišs’ striking black-and-white film is part coming-of-age story, part existential comedy and a haunting portrait of someone trying to find where she belongs.

🏆 A Cannes 2026 Un Certain Regard selection, “Ulya” will also represent Latvia at the Oscars.

🔥 Meet the Legend: Oscar-awarded production-designer Allan Starski is coming to CinEast

That’s one of our most special evenings - right at the beginning of our Warm-Up week-end: watch Wajda’s revolutionary “Danton” and then meet two people who brought its world to life. ✨

🎞️ As part of our Andrzej Wajda retrospective, this special screening brings the acclaimed 1983 drama to Théâtre des Capucins, followed by an extended Q&A with production designer Allan Starski who will be joined by costume designer Wiesława Starska.

Paris, 1794. Danton returns to a city consumed by revolutionary terror and comes face to face with his former ally Robespierre.

Wajda transforms their confrontation into a gripping drama about power, ideals and the limits of political violence.

✨ Yes, that’s Charli XCX in “Erupcja”, Pete Ohs’ unconventional romance set in Warsaw.

Bethany, played by the pop icon arrives in the city with her boyfriend for a romantic getaway. Then a volcano erupts, her plans fall apart, and she takes it as a sign that something in her life needs to change.

The screening (free!) takes place in the brand new venue hqLX and will be followed by DJ sets.

"Fjord" 🇷🇴 - the Palme d’Or winner at CinEast!

✨ We are proud to present the Luxembourgish premiere of the winning film of this year's Cannes festival (and Romania's Oscar submission), Cristian Mungiu's "Fjord".

Inspired by a true story, “Fjord” follows a Romanian family living in a remote Norwegian community whose lives are upended when concerns over their children’s upbringing bring them into conflict with the authorities.

But this is not simply a story about parenting or child protection. Mungiu explores what happens when people acting in good faith look at the same reality and see entirely different worlds.

At the heart of the film is a question that feels increasingly urgent in our multicultural, polarised Europe: how can we understand one another when we are often quicker to judge than to listen?

Refusing easy answers or clear sides, “Fjord” examines family autonomy, cultural identity, mistrust and the clash between conservative and progressive values, leaving us to question our own certainties.
