Let’s Support Our Host Venue
Dear members of Club Polyglotte,
First of all, thank you to the many of you who continue to make our Tuesday evenings at Le Quai Steffen such a vibrant and welcoming space for multilingual exchange. Your presence and participation are what keep our club alive.
However, I must raise an issue that has become increasingly serious. As you know, our club has the privilege of meeting at Le Quai Steffen without a rental fee. In return, we agreed—right from the beginning—that each participant would at least order a drink at the bar. This small gesture helps the restaurant justify hosting us without needing to hire extra staff.
Unfortunately, this agreement is not being respected by everyone. Out of the usual 30–45 attendees, around 10 people regularly consume nothing at all. Even more concerning, some have recently brought their own food and drinks—Coke cans, tea in thermos bottles—and consumed them on-site. In one case, empty cans were left under the table. This is not only disrespectful to the venue, it puts our entire club at risk.
We have now received a formal warning from the restaurant’s director. If this behavior continues, we will be asked to leave. We’ve been granted a short grace period to show that we can do better.
Let me be clear: this message is not aimed at the majority who already support the venue. But for those who haven’t been contributing, we must insist—kindly but firmly—that everyone purchases at least one drink per evening, directly at the bar. No outside food or beverages are allowed. No exceptions.
We’ve heard all the reasons: “I’m only staying for five minutes,” “I’m on a diet,” “I’m not thirsty,” “I don’t like anything on the menu.” We understand. But we also need to be realistic: without a minimum of support for the restaurant, we lose our meeting space.
So please, let’s all do our part. If someone joins you who’s new or unsure, kindly remind them of this agreement. It’s a small price to pay for the wonderful atmosphere we enjoy every week.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Warm regards,
Volkert
President, Club Polyglotte Luxembourg
NB: The below thermos bottle (still half full with tea) was hidden and forgotten next to the French table on 28/10/2025. You can ask us to bring it back until 24/11/2025. Thereafter the bottle will be thrown away. Thank you for your understanding.
