Welcome back!
This month, I have been focusing a lot on my work with SETU Nepal, the NGO I am volunteering with. We had an interesting project on the go, which I mainly worked on. I had the opportunity to design a concept for the Farmhouse, which we presented to the board members.
To get the social media channel up and running, we developed a new strategy and stuck to it. We produced and posted lots of new content. To achieve this, I participated in programmes to capture everything in pictures or videos. This meant that I could then transform it into short videos or use it for posts in general.
Over the last few months, we have been producing a video documentary on LGBTIQ+, which was finally posted this month. Alongside this, we held an orientation programme on LGBTIQ+ and HIV, which included the first public screening of the documentary.
In my free time, I took part in a Puja for the first time. It was fascinating to observe this five-hour ceremony. I also helped with the cooking and became a pro at rolling out perfect, circle-shaped rotis.
The visit to Bhaktapur was a nice experience. Previously, I had only been there to change buses. The whole area has retained traditional Newari architecture, and of course, trying the traditional yoghurt is a must.

It's halftime! The third month of my stay in Nepal has come to an end. Here are some of my highlights.

On February 15, Hindus all over Nepal celebrated Shivaratri. The exact translation is "Shiva" (Lord Shiva) and "Ratri" (Night), so the Night of Shiva. It represents the end of ignorance and the beginning of a new life. During this festival, many people visit Pashupatinath Temple to take part in the celebrations. We were there one day before Shivaratri, and there were already many people gathering for the Aarati.

It felt great to be together. Everyone was chanting and listening to the same sound. It was a very special moment for me, especially because it happened at the biggest Hindu temple in Nepal.

I also got the chance to go on a three-day trek and visit Pokhara. This experience was very different from the one at Pashupatinath Temple, but it was still important to me. I was amazed by the beauty of the forest, with its rhododendrons in bloom. It was a completely different view from what I had expected. Yes, I could also see the mountains, but the view through the blooming forest and the sound of donkeys carrying things up the hills was almost even more beautiful.

I realized that even if you stay somewhere for three months, there's always more to see and learn.

That was just a little glimpse into my life here, because I don't want to give everything away.

Welcome back! My second month of volunteering in Nepal is over, and I have experienced lots of new things.

I have become more familiar with the city and, at the weekends, I have explored some of the more touristy areas, such as the Swayambhu Temple and Patan Darbar Square. I also went on a picnic with strangers, which was so much fun, and I met some young people and made some new friends. We played board games, got to know each other through a photo challenge, and of course enjoyed a delicious picnic.

At the farmhouse, I celebrated Maghi with the children. We made three different kinds of laddu and enjoyed eating them together. As the average daytime temperature here is around 20 degrees, the cauliflower at the farm is growing very nicely, and we harvested around 80 kg in the first month of the year.

In the office, I do administrative work such as writing reports, as well as designing material for reports and SETU Nepal's social media channels.

I am really enjoying my time here and learning lots of new things. Did you know that the vegetarian diet here includes not only fish and meat, but also eggs? This makes it very difficult to find a traditional Luxembourgish dish to serve to my host family. If you have any ideas about what I could cook for them, please share them!

💬VOLONTAIRES AU NEPAL 💬

Hello,
My name is Amélie, and my journey as a volunteer at SETU Nepal has officially begun. I arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal on December 1st. My host family picked me up and took me to their home. I live in Kathmandu with my host mother, Ranju; my host father, Uttam; and their dog, Covi. They are very kind, and I am very happy to live with a family.
SETU Nepal is an organization that supports deprived women and children. They have one office in Kathmandu where I work on administrative projects, such as writing reports, marketing on social media, and organizing activities.
Another place I visit is a farmhouse outside Kathmandu. It is a shelter for children affected by HIV. There, we do agricultural work like building compost and activities with the children, such as celebrating Christmas. As you can see, my work is really diverse and interesting.
It is really nice here, and I have already met many people and tried many different foods. In my free time, I explored Kathmandu and attended a three-day yoga retreat at a Buddhist monastery.
One thing I did not know was that Nepali people celebrate Christmas too. I was surprised when I was invited to join the children for Christmas. We had a big dinner with Nepali and Luxembourgish food and a Christmas tree, and we exchanged gifts.
