Les Amis des Musées sont les ambassadeurs de nos musées, des passeurs de culture et des acteurs engagés dans la cité Register on our website

The Amis des Musées are the ambassadors of Luxembourgish museums, promoting Luxembourgish culture nationally and internationally. They are composed of art and history enthusiasts. Their main goal is the active support of the six art and history museums of the City :
- Casino Luxembourg - Contemporary Art Forum
- Lëtzebuerg City Museum
- Mudam (Museum of Modern Art Grand Duke Jean)
- Dräi Eechelen Museum
- National Museum of History and Art
- Villa Vauban - Art Museum of the City of Luxembourg

Become a Member and participate in the crowdfunding for the purchase of Art works donated to one of the Museums in Luxembourg. With this card you will also get free access to our six partner museums as well as la Nuit des Musées. Furthermore the Amis des musées organise private guided tours of exhibitions in Luxembourg as well as day trips, weekends or week-trips to visit exhibitions abroad, always guided by curators, directors or artists themselves.

The Nuit des Musées is turning 25, and this year is “The Birthday Edition”. On Saturday 10 October, from 5 pm to 1 am, seven museums in Luxembourg City stay open late, and one wristband gets you into all of them.⁠
⁠
Exhibitions seen differently, concerts, DJ sets, performances, workshops, special guided tours and food along the way. You go from museum to museum on foot or by free shuttle.⁠

To mark the anniversary, illustrator Irina Moons designed a free booklet you pick up with your wristband. Get it stamped in each museum: seven stamps, seven illustrations, and a souvenir of the night that’s yours alone.⁠

On the second Sunday of October, the World Day of Friends of Museums will be celebrated for the very first time, under the patronage of the European Parliament. Around 200 associations in 20 countries, some 2 million people who share the same passion.⁠

As Amis des Musées du Luxembourg, we are proud to support this first worldwide edition alongside the World Federation of Friends of Museums World Federation of Friends of Museums, and to be part of that community.⁠

Visite culturelle | On September 2nd, the Amis des Musées were at the Musée Dräi Eechelen for a guided tour in French of the permanent exhibition.⁠
⁠
Housed in the historic redoubt of the former fortress of Luxembourg, the Musée Dräi Eechelen tells the story of the city through its walls. Each casemate illustrates a period of the fortress’s past and its ties to the history of Luxembourg: the journey begins in the Middle Ages with the capture of the city by the Burgundians in 1443 and ends with the construction of the Pont Adolphe in 1903.⁠
⁠
Along the way, some 600 original objects and documents — many never shown before — reveal the richness of the collections, while a dedicated room gathers historical photographs of the fortress before and during its dismantling. The architectural complex is itself the main exhibit: its spectacular system of underground galleries and mines is largely preserved as it stood in its final construction phase of 1836/37. A multimedia space completes the visit with an interactive database and audiovisual documentation.⁠

The JAM have a new president.⁠
⁠
Daphné Reckinger handed over the presidency of the Jeunes Ados des Musées in person, to Luca Cannizzaro di Belmontino, with Faye Vanderfelt as vice-president.⁠
⁠
If you don’t know them yet: the JAM are the teenage section of the Amis des Musées, created in March 2023 and run by a committee of seven, each with their own role. Together they visit exhibitions in the six partner museums and in galleries, on afternoons through the school year, in French or in English, and they choose the programme themselves.⁠
⁠
In their own words: « Our ambition is to encourage young people to explore art and culture through events that we choose for our members. »⁠
⁠
Daphné and the oldest JAM now move up to the Young Friends of Museums, our 18–35 section. That is exactly how it is meant to work: nobody ages out of the museums, they just change room.⁠

Midi de l’Art | On August 24th, the Amis des Musées were at Villa Vauban for a guided walk through the sculpture park surrounding Villa Vauban.⁠
⁠
Laid out by 19th-century landscape architect Édouard André and restored to his original design, the park hides sculpture in plain sight — works by François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne, Lucien Wercollier and Liliane Heidelberger, scattered between the hedges and the lawns.⁠

Excursion culturelle | On August 22nd, the Amis des Musées set off across the country for ‘Dodeka, 12 œuvres pour 12 cantons’, the off-site exhibition with which Mudam Luxembourg celebrates its 20th anniversary. ⁠
⁠
For its anniversary, the Mudam Luxembourg takes twelve works out of its storerooms and sends them to the twelve cantons of the country, where they are shown in museums, town halls, libraries, national cultural institutes and cultural centres. Each travelling work enters into dialogue with local heritage, echoing the singular history of the canton that hosts it.⁠

Mami, 1994 — Wolfgang Tillmans, at the Castle of Clervaux⁠
One Million Years, 1970/2000 — On Kawara, at the Musée de l’Ardoise in Haut-Martelange⁠

From a mediaeval fortress to a former slate quarry, the day was as much about the works as about the places that welcomed them, with a convivial lunch in Clervaux along the way. Bärbel Aubert accompanied the Amis des Musées for this day rich in discoveries.⁠

A second excursion will take place this autumn to discover further works from the exhibition. ⁠

Last Saturday, the Amis des Musées were at the 4th Luxembourg Expat Day at , one day, 40+ stands, and a lot of conversations about art.⁠

Thank you to everyone who came to say hello, asked how the Museum Pass works, and told us which museum they still hadn’t visited. That’s exactly why we’re there.⁠

A reminder for those we met: the Museum Pass gives free, unlimited access to the six museums we support all year long, plus invitations to openings and members-only guided visits, five to eight of them every month, in museums, galleries and private collections that are usually closed to the public.⁠

Visite culturelle | On August 18th, the Amis des Musées were at the Lëtzebuerg City Museum for a 90-minute guided tour in French of City Visions. Un regard frais sur la ville de Luxembourg. ⁠

Since the Middle Ages, artists have portrayed cities — leaving behind precious historical testimonies of urban planning and of political, demographic and economic change. The city remains a major source of inspiration for modern and contemporary artists, and the collection of the Lëtzebuerg City Museum traces that urban evolution from the 16th century onwards: from majestic panoramic views to abstract and expressive visions of Luxembourg.⁠
⁠
On the museum’s 5th floor, the exhibition builds on this collection to shine a light on our city and invites visitors into a dynamic dialogue with its works. The space is designed as a multidimensional, multisensory and experimental experience — accessible to all audiences and made to be taken part in, not only looked at.⁠
