Inclusion in Physical Education
🌍 The 37th EUPEA Forum on Inclusion in Physical Education brought together more than 30 PE teachers, teacher educators, experts, and representatives of PE organizations from across Europe to explore how we can create more inclusive PE environments for all learners.
Driving Inclusion in Physical Education Across Europe 🌍
The 37th EUPEA Forum in Mykonos began with a shared exploration of what inclusion in PE means, highlighting the importance of supportive learning environments, the role of teachers, SEND principles, and adapting teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of all students. Key findings and resources from the DIPPE Project provided a strong foundation for discussion.
A particularly inspiring contribution came from Garrett Coyle, who shared his personal journey of raising a child with special needs and how it has shaped his work on inclusion at St. Macartan’s College, showcasing what genuine inclusion looks like in PE classrooms.
International working groups exchanged perspectives on inclusion, discussing policy, teacher preparation, inclusive teaching practices, equality and diversity, barriers and facilitators, and examples of effective practice from different countries.
Through real-life teaching scenarios, participants identified key challenges and collaboratively developed solutions to support equitable participation, social belonging, and meaningful learning for all students in PE.
The Forum marks the beginning of EUPEA’s efforts to map inclusion needs, practices, and experiences across member countries. These insights will inform the development of future resources and initiatives to support teachers and strengthen Quality Physical Education across Europe.
