This year our WIDPSC team was incredibly successful, so get ready for a lengthy post! WIDPSC 2026 took place in Bristol, UK, April 11-18. During this time the coaches Kristijonas Pajėda (rocking a gray suit)and Paulina Šalkauskaitė (second row, in between Elžbieta and Akvilė)supported the eight national team members through multiple semi-finals.

From left to right:
Kostas Andriulis (Vilniaus Karalienės Mortos mokykla) — semi-finals: Interpretive Reading and Impromptu speaking.

Jonas Ryklys (Vilniaus licėjus) — 3rd best speaker in ESL and 33 out of 150 overall, semi-finals: Persuasive Speaking and Impromptu Speaking.

Joris Skėrys (Kauno Karalienės Mortos mokykla) — 7th out of 150 in Interpretive Reading, Interpretive Reading semi-final.

Elena Katkutė (Vilniaus Vytauto Didžiojo gimnazija) — honorably represented Lithuania.

Elžbieta Navickaitė (Vilniaus Saulės privati gimnazija) — Interpretive Reading semi-final.

Akvilė Mačiulevičiūtė (Vilniaus jėzuitų gimnazija) — After-dinner Speaking semi-final.

Grytė Žilytė (Vilniaus Erudito licėjus) — honorably represented Lithuania.

Lukas Starkus (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija) — 51 out of 150, 7th out of 150 in Impromptu Speaking, 50th out of 150 in Debating, semifinals: Interpretive Reading and Impromptu Speaking.

But these achievements are just a part of the story — experiencing WIDPSC provides students with much more than an impressive entry in their university applications.
Team members sharing their experiences mention how wonderful it has been to meet other like-minded people and make friends from all over the world. Not only do you get to train with a talented team but also learn how to be best friends with your rivals, whether it means responding to someone’s Instagram story or catching a flight to another continent :))

LSDC 2026 Outrounds revealed the winners of the event: VJG A(ngel) team consisting of Milda Beržinskaitė, Miglė Gudžinskaitė, Kotryna Meškauskaitė and Mykolas Žalinkevičius. Congratulations to the team and their coaches! We also observed the country’s best speakers and some of them made it to the very top of the list.

We are saying a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who took part in the event: the speakers, the coaches, the parents, organizers and other staff members. It was wonderful to see you all!

A bit more than a week ago Miglė, Milda, Lukas, their coach Jogaila and Gabrielė returned home from ESDC 2026 in North Macedonia🇲🇰 . Thank you for doing your best while representing Lithuania in debates🇱🇹! Here are some memories from their trip:

We're ecstatic to announce that Gabija Stankevičiūtė (any pronouns) will take on the joys and burdens of being this year's WSDC 2026 team's coach for their pathway to victory in Kenya!

Currently, Gabija manages to be a full-time textile student at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, coach half of Lithuania (Vilnius Jesuits, Vilnius Debating society and Kaunas Queen Morta's school) as well as open their first gallery exhibition and/or spend 4h a day playing solitaire or crosswords. Ironically, she swore to quit debates after their debating career at Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium, taking home 2nd place in both the Lithuanian Championship 2023/24 and Debate Academy 2024. However, the pedagogic blood that runs in the family kept Gabija here. Although committed to the "debating as a hobby" bit, Gabija is an empath when it comes to competitive debating and will bring not only a shoulder to cry on but also snacks to every tournament the team manages to register. To the best debriefs and museum and thrift store excursions, we wish Gabija and the rest of the team the best of luck!

Another team announcement coming your way - incredibly proud of the canididate pool this year and those who made it to the end. This year WSDC Lithuania team consists of (from left to right): Mykolas Žalinkevičius (VJG), Kotryna Meškauskaitė (VJG), Martyna Vaitkutė (KTUG), Milda Sofija Leonavičiūtė (KJG) and Aleks Kumar (KJG).

The team is currently training and competing in their first tournament together in Talinn, Estonia. Best of luck! ☺️🩷

Exciting news! We are proud announce that the ESDC 2026 team consists of Lukas Starkus (KTUG), Milda Beržinskaitė (VJG) and Miglė Gudžinskaitė (VJG). Their lovely coach Jogaila Mitkus will be coaching and guiding them all throughout the training process and the tournament (February 26th - March 1st). The team and their coach will also be accompanied by Gabrielė Petronytė, who together with Jogaila will take part in the training seminar “Supporting Young people as Co-Facilitators”.

Attention, debaters! Leading up to LSDC this year, we are launching a series of training sessions (spars) that are to take place next week, from December 28th all the way to January 2nd. In them, you will be able to practise your debating skills against other teams as well as receive qualified feedback from an array of experienced judges who will be provided by CAP. You can practise both the prepared motion as well as try your hand at impromptu rounds.

For now, all you need to do is consult with your team and fill this form. Make sure to select all the times when at least three teammates from your team will be available. Based on the results of this form, a schedule will be created and released this Saturday (December 27th) through official LDC channels (Facebook, Instagram). The debates will take place online at a link that will be provided.

‼️The deadline for filling this form in is Friday (December 26th) 23.59 Lithuanian time.

The time has come again to select the national WSDC and ESDC teams. As mentioned, the ESDC 2026 team will be coached by one wonderful coach - Jogaila Mitkus. However, the WSDC 2026 team will be coached by multiple alumni with heaps of diverse skills and knowledge. Let’s just say - the debating village. All of us are excited to provide the team with training, workshops, team building exercises and so much more ☺️

Introducing another great addition — Gabrielė Petronytė as Stewardship and Operations Director.

Gabrielė has an incredible amount of experience under the belt, as someone who only left behind high school debating this year. WSDC debating experience includes achievments, such as winner team member of LSDN 2023 and KDS summer camp 2024, multiple top 10 placements. Gabrielė is continuing with debating at university level, and already has something to show for it — Gabrielė broke first to novice finals in the Dutch Debate League this year. Not to mention all of the organisational experience in Jesus Cup 2024 and 2025. At the moment Gabrielė is also a competitive debates committee member of Eloquentia Maastricht.

We are happy to be guided by such a bright person, thank you! ☺️
