We're sorry. Our WSDC '26 journey ends on 3 wins and 8 ballots.

Although we were unable to break as a team we are beyond proud of Greta Pangonytė who broke as a judge!

Sending love🫶

On day 4 (3rd of debating), we met with Zanzibar in R5 and won with 2-1 ballots, and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 in R6. Unfortunately, the latter went to our opponents with a 2-1 split as well.

On day 5, we received our first unanimous 3-0 win against Costa Rica 🇨🇷 and a unanimous loss against our friends from Denmark 🇩🇰

Although day 2 did not yield any ballots from R3 against England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and R4 against Türkiye 🇹🇷, day 3 was full of laughter and good company (we ❤️ giraffes)

☝️😔, ☝️🏆.

We finish day 1 of WSDC in Kenya with 1 loss against Indonesia 🇮🇩 and 1 win with 2 ballots against Ukraine 🇺🇦. Being finally done with the horrors of prepared rounds, the team is ecstatic for impromptu rounds.

This youth exchange and training programme is designed for young debaters preparing to become the next generation of debate coaches. The event will take place in the Dutch town of Blokzijl and will bring together participants from across the IDEA network for a week of learning, practice and leadership development.

The programme is aimed primarily at first-year university students and fourth-year high school students who are planning to begin coaching debate in the upcoming school year. However, the LDC selection committee is determined to be flexible in their process, so don’t hesitate to apply if you fall outside this category! Through workshops, practical exercises and collaborative sessions, participants will develop the pedagogical skills and confidence necessary to teach and mentor younger students.

This year our WIDPSC team was incredibly successful, so get ready for a lengthy post! WIDPSC 2026 took place in Bristol, UK, April 11-18. During this time the coaches Kristijonas Pajėda (rocking a gray suit)and Paulina Šalkauskaitė (second row, in between Elžbieta and Akvilė)supported the eight national team members through multiple semi-finals.

From left to right:
Kostas Andriulis (Vilniaus Karalienės Mortos mokykla) — semi-finals: Interpretive Reading and Impromptu speaking.

Jonas Ryklys (Vilniaus licėjus) — 3rd best speaker in ESL and 33 out of 150 overall, semi-finals: Persuasive Speaking and Impromptu Speaking.

Joris Skėrys (Kauno Karalienės Mortos mokykla) — 7th out of 150 in Interpretive Reading, Interpretive Reading semi-final.

Elena Katkutė (Vilniaus Vytauto Didžiojo gimnazija) — honorably represented Lithuania.

Elžbieta Navickaitė (Vilniaus Saulės privati gimnazija) — Interpretive Reading semi-final.

Akvilė Mačiulevičiūtė (Vilniaus jėzuitų gimnazija) — After-dinner Speaking semi-final.

Grytė Žilytė (Vilniaus Erudito licėjus) — honorably represented Lithuania.

Lukas Starkus (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija) — 51 out of 150, 7th out of 150 in Impromptu Speaking, 50th out of 150 in Debating, semifinals: Interpretive Reading and Impromptu Speaking.

But these achievements are just a part of the story — experiencing WIDPSC provides students with much more than an impressive entry in their university applications.
Team members sharing their experiences mention how wonderful it has been to meet other like-minded people and make friends from all over the world. Not only do you get to train with a talented team but also learn how to be best friends with your rivals, whether it means responding to someone’s Instagram story or catching a flight to another continent :))
