Watch Episode 7 of the UREHERIT podcast series on Youtube!

What happens when heritage meets contemporary technology? This episode explores how new materials, research tools, and engineering solutions are reshaping the way historic buildings are studied, restored, and adapted — without losing what makes them valuable. Moving between traditional building knowledge and modern technologies, it asks where innovation truly helps, and where careful restraint is essential.
The conversation brings together perspectives from research and hands-on practice, with insights from Henriette Ejstrup and Volodymyr Gaidar. Through examples of non-invasive investigation, digital documentation, and carefully integrated technical systems, the episode shows how technology can be used not to dominate heritage, but to support informed, site-specific decisions and long-term resilience.

Leading partners of the activity “Materials and Technologies in Restoration” are Det Kongelige Akademi The Institute of Technology and Architecture (DK) and The Національна Спілка Архітекторів України - НСАУ (UA).

How do we learn to work with heritage in a time of war and recovery? This episode looks at education as a critical space where new approaches to heritage regeneration are formed — not only through theory, but through real decisions, real places, and real responsibility. It asks how professionals can be prepared to work with damaged, layered, and often contested heritage, and to understand it as a resource for sustainable development, cultural continuity, and community life.
The episode first focuses on CPD Ukraine, a professional development course built around real projects from across the country. Here, learning happens through concrete cases rather than abstract tasks: practising architects and planners work with existing heritage sites, developing strategies that combine conservation, adaptive reuse, economic models, and community needs. Project planning, collaboration, and strategic thinking emerge as essential skills alongside design, linking heritage values with everyday decision-making at the local level.
The focus then shifts to KHSA bachelor’s education in architecture, where students are introduced to heritage as a complex, living process from the very beginning of their careers. Through courses centered on adaptive reuse and sensitive reconstruction, they learn to work with layered histories, social values, and questions of identity — treating heritage not as a limitation, but as a foundation for contemporary architectural practice.

Leading partners of the activity “CPD program on integrated heritage recovery” are Architects Sweden (SE) and The National Union of Architects of Ukraine (UA). In cooperation with Swedish Institute
Leading partners of the activity “Undergraduate Course for Third-Year Architecture Students “Critical Reconstruction” is Kharkiv School of Architecture (UA).

Episode 5 of the UREHERIT podcast series is now available.

This episode explores how heritage recovery can become a shared, participatory process rather than the sole responsibility of institutions and experts. Focusing on inclusive methods, it highlights how collective action—through hands-on restoration, community engagement, and on-site learning—can help restore not only damaged sites, but also their social meaning.

Drawing on international collaboration and experiences from Ukraine, the discussion examines how participatory approaches can build local capacity, develop practical skills, and support long-term recovery strategies rooted in everyday use.

The episode features Raluca Munteanu (Pro Patrimonio), Ștefan Bâlici (Ordinul Arhitecților din România), and Hanna Havryliv (Спадщина.UA / Heritage.UA / Палац Розділ / Rozdil Palace ), bringing together perspectives from both European and Ukrainian contexts.

Leading partners of the activity “Method for inclusive heritage recovery” are Romanian Order of Architects (RO) and Ro3kvit Urban Coalition for Ukraine (UA). In cooperation with: UAHerit, Rozdil Palace, BUR, The Ambulance for Monuments, Pro Patrimonio, Studio Govora
