We are proud to Share that as EuroHugs, we partecipated in the online course “Introduction to Media Literacy and Critical Thinking” in May and June 2026. within the framework of the MediActive Youth Network (MAYnet), hosted by the Center for Social and Economic Development (CDER), together with partner organisations,
The course was delivered in English as a comprehensive Moodle-based online programme, led by CDER experts Aleksandar Pavlović, PhD and Romina Begaj, MA.
It brought together 20 representatives of partner organisations from across Europe, strengthening the Network’s collective expertise in media literacy and critical thinking.
The programme consisted of 10 structured lessons:
• Introduction to News Literacy
• Media and Communication
• What is Media Literacy?
• Critically Reading Media Messages
• Basic Principles of Journalism
• Top 10 Rules of Journalism
• Basic Rules of Writing
• What is Style?
• Top 10 Basic Principles of Composition
• Top 10 Elementary Rules of Usage
Each topic included short theoretical inputs, presentations, quizzes, and additional reading materials, ensuring an interactive and practice-oriented learning experience.
The course introduced participants to key concepts necessary for understanding, interpreting, and producing media content, including media influence, post-truth society, fake news, algorithms, filter bubbles, and echo chambers. Special attention was given to distinguishing between traditional and social media, as well as to ethical and professional standards in journalism.
Participants also developed critical reading skills, learned to identify bias and misinformation, and explored the growing role of AI-generated content in today’s media environment.
A central objective of the course was to empower young activists and youth workers to become critical consumers and responsible creators of media content. Through practical assignments, participants were encouraged to identify youth-related policy issues and produce articles of 1,000–1,500 words, with mentoring support from CDER experts. These articles will be published in the Transnational Youth Magazine, contributing to wider public discourse on youth issues across Europe.
The course gathered representatives from partner organisations across 13 European countries, including: Bulgarian Youth Forum, Eesti People to People, BRAVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), CDER and the Journalism Department of the Faculty of Sport (Serbia), Beyond Barriers Association (Albania), Mitra (France), Apkabink Europe (Lithuania), Hellenic Youth Participation (Greece), Grow United (Germany), PRIMA (Montenegro), CID (North Macedonia) and HERMES (Croatia).
By engaging these organisations in a shared learning process, the course significantly strengthened the media literacy capacities of individual member organisations, and consequently contributed to the overall capacity and cohesion of the MEDIActive Youth Network.
The successful implementation of the course marks an important step in advancing MAYnet’s mission to promote media literacy, critical thinking, and youth empowerment across Europe. It was delivered through a combination of Moodle-based online learning and live Zoom sessions, ensuring accessibility, interaction, and high-quality engagement.
It further confirms the Network’s commitment to building a knowledgeable, critical, and active generation of young media actors capable of responding to the challenges of today’s complex information environment.

"Is My History Useful?" 🕊️

History helps us build a better future.
Our participants propose an annual three-day event dedicated to remembering the victims of fascism and ensuring their stories are never forgotten.

The programme would begin with an open public session where survivors, families, and historians can share their experiences. It would continue with online discussions in schools, giving students the opportunity to learn directly from these stories. The event would conclude with a visit to a memorial to honour the victims and reflect on the lessons of history. 📖

Hosted each year in a different European country and open to both participants and volunteers, the initiative aims to strengthen remembrance, promote democratic values, and help ensure that the tragedies of the past are never repeated.

"Is My History Useful?" 📱

We spend hours scrolling every day - but what if we learned something along the way?

Our participants propose creating engaging content about history and the European Union across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Short videos, stories, and interactive posts can make history easier to understand and more relevant to everyday life. Learning history doesn't have to be boring. It can be part of our daily feed. 🤩

Let's make history meaningful again!

"Is My History Useful?" 🗣️

We can learn from history - but only if every voice is heard. Our participants propose creating regular dialogue sessions in local municipalities, where citizens of all ages can come together to discuss the issues that shape their daily lives. 🤝

By reflecting on lessons from history, communities can avoid repeating past mistakes, find common ground, and make better decisions for the future. Because the best solutions are built through dialogue!

"Is My History Useful?" 🤝

History keeps us connected - especially when it's shared across generations.

Our participants propose bringing young and older generations together through community events built around topics that matter to both. In partnership with volunteers, local organizations, and Erasmus+ projects, these conversations can help bridge generational gaps, preserve lived experiences, and strengthen our sense of community.

Because when we share our stories, we build a stronger future together. 💙

"Is My History Useful?" 🏛️

History helps us understand the past - and avoid repeating its mistakes.

That's the idea behind "History Real," a proposal created by our participants to make history more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for young people. Students would plan their own visits to museums and historical sites, deciding together where to go and what to explore. Afterward, they would create short videos reflecting on what they learned and why it matters today. 🤔

When young people experience history for themselves, it becomes more than a lesson - it becomes a perspective.

"Is My History Useful?" 🇪🇺

What if every European citizen of age received a simple guide to how the European Parliament works - delivered alongside their national election notification?

Our participants believe this small step could make a big difference, helping people better understand European democracy, encouraging civic participation, and strengthening a shared sense of belonging.

Because informed citizens build a stronger Europe.

"Is My History Useful?" 🗳️

Young people care about democracy - but many have never been given the tools to truly understand it.

A democratic citizen isn't born; they're shaped. That's why our participants created "Shaping the Future Together" - an initiative that makes democracy engaging, accessible, and relevant. 👀

Through social media content, honest podcast conversations, youth book clubs, and interactive seminars, the goal is simple: turn passive scrolling into active thinking.

Because democracy grows when people are empowered to take part. 🇪🇺
