Follow-up activity in Romania after the training course Pragmatic Youth Work in Lithuania this December.
‘On the 19th of December 2025 - soon after arriving back to Romania from Pragmatic Youth Work E+, I managed to do a follow up through a gamified activity for learning about active listening as well as spreading awareness about hearing disability. I was inspired by one of the participants in our E+ project, one that had hearing deficiencies. The contrast of our learning was highlighted through these 2 extremes : from hearing deficiency to active listening. The implementation day was the game night in our youth center. As the facilitator, I started off with introducing the participants to the instructions of the game, giving them 3 characters to experiment with. They had one storyteller, one listener and one observer and around two minutes for each role to explore. The plot twist of the activity was covering their ears or even connecting headphones to music while being the listener of the story. The purpose was experimenting social life as someone who can’t hear sounds. The most interesting outcomes were : in one group the person who could not hear felt totally excluded and noticed they were not even looked at, while in another group all characters worked towards including the person who could not hear into the conversation through expressing themselves in a very visual and slow way: one slowly saying the story while the other was mimicing it. I believe that the first example is the society at the current moment, while the second one is what the world can look like with more collective input.’
