In the village of Ha-Lebopo in Mokhotlong, seasonal food scarcity often affects household nutrition and child wellbeing. As an intervention SolidarMed in collaboration with World Vision International Lesotho and the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security And Nutrition Lesotho supported practical food preservation demonstrations for the Ha-Lebopo's Nutrition Club.
The initiative equipped community members with hands-on skills to preserve locally available foods, including potato juice, beetroot pickle, carrot jam, vegetable atchaar, and other nutritious products.
These locally driven preservation methods are helping families extend the shelf life of seasonal produce and reduce household food losses.
Food preservation plays an important role in addressing child malnutrition in remote areas by improving food availability, dietary diversity, and household food security during lean seasons.
This initiative strengthens community resilience and supports improved nutrition outcomes for children and families in Ha-Lebopo.
