𝙍𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙆𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙝𝙞 is a social worker and climate change activist from Maseru, dedicated to advancing sustainable development, equitable climate adaptation, and youth access to green finance globally. Through initiatives such as 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙚, the 𝙀𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 (𝙇𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚), and the 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙁𝙪𝙣𝙙 (𝙂𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙡 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙤𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣), she is driving meaningful change for communities and young people.

Our case study on Lesotho — taking women as a focus group — has showcased how women are at the height of vulnerability to climate change both in the highlands and the lowlands. It highlights that while women are globally disproportionately affected by climate change, those in the highlands experience different and often more severe impacts compared to women in the lowlands. Women in the highlands face heightened climate risks, which continue to undermine livelihoods and food security. Reliance on subsistence farming to meet their own and their families’ daily nutritional needs has increasingly become a challenge due to changing climate patterns.

These findings further reinforce the priorities outlined in Lesotho’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), which recognize gender-responsive climate action, climate-resilient agriculture, and community-based adaptation as critical pathways to strengthening resilience among vulnerable groups, particularly women.

As part of the 30 youth-led organizations under the incubation of Youth Power Hub, Plant One Tree had the honor to attend yet another Pitso Session purported to explore and understand challenges the youth face in pursuit of financial assistance from banking systems, grants and donations and many sources of income.

At the dialogue, the youth expressed that part of their challenges are the banking systems and their requirements. Most of financial institutions require collateral and this becomes a setback for start-ups. Also, when applying for grants, one of the requirements is track record and proper bookkeeping, part of which becomes a setback for manufacturing businesses as they require costly machinery that would otherwise be easy to buy through loans and many more options.

For NGOs, it's difficult to access funds from corporates because they opt to support sports as they get tax reduction when they do.

Recommendation to RSL:

To enhance greening corporates by reducing tax when they support youth-led initiatives in the green space as well. This will promote compliance to their environmental and health policies.

Across the Southern region, young people continue to rise with bold ideas, meaningful dialogue, and practical solutions that strengthen livelihoods and drive lasting change.

At the Youth Networking Pitso in , the energy was powerful — young leaders shared lived experiences, challenged each other’s thinking, and explored fresh pathways for economic transformation, innovation, and social progress.

📝 A key milestone of this journey is the development of a Youth Manifesto on Livelihoods Prioritisation — a roadmap created by young people, for young people, to guide local development priorities.

Guided by local leadership and supported by dedicated partners, the conversations touched on business development support, life skills, farming and seedling production, waste management, and other areas critical to youth empowerment and sustainable growth.

Under the initiative, we proudly stand with partners working to unlock the full potential of Lesotho’s youth. Together, we are building platforms where young people can participate, influence decisions, and lead community transformation.

The momentum is growing.
The voices are louder.
The future is being shaped — by the youth, for the nation.

Theme: Reimagining Youth Economic Empowerment: Innovation, Inclusion & Sustainable Livelihoods

POT joined an inspiring gathering of youth, development partners, and government stakeholders in Butha Buthe to tackle youth unemployment and open doors for youth-led solutions.

✨ Highlights:
🌱 Youth empowerment through self-initiative and confidence – “It is possible!”
🌱 The Youth Power Hub is fueling capacity building, skills development, civic engagement, and support for grassroots youth organisations.
🌱 Addressing gaps: skills mismatch, rural–urban disparities, and the need for impact-focused youth platforms.
🌱 Youth programs strengthen networks, idea refinement, financial literacy, and sustainable initiative management.
🌱 Calls to improve Youth Centres: computer labs, internet access, mentorship, business display spaces, disability-friendly facilities, libraries, consultation rooms, recreational areas, and on-site clinics.
🌱 Economic and agricultural opportunities: leverage local resources, include rural youth, digital branding, youth-friendly financial systems, mobile-money apps, and entrepreneurship counselling.
🌱 Push for a National Youth Representative Body to coordinate voices, economic participation, and political inclusion.

We at Plant One Tree (POT) proudly stand with the world in marking World AIDS Day — a day that reminds us of the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS and the shared responsibility we carry to protect, uplift, and empower our communities.

HIV/AIDS continues to affect families, young people, and vulnerable groups across the globe — including right here in Lesotho. Despite progress in treatment and prevention, stigma and misinformation remain some of the biggest barriers to ending AIDS.

At Plant One Tree, we believe that every person deserves access to accurate information, regular testing, compassionate support, and quality healthcare — regardless of their status or background.

Today, we commit to:

🌍 Promoting accessible and youth-friendly health services
🩺 Encouraging everyone to know their status and seek timely treatment

POT was truly honoured to be invited to the European Union in Lesotho Civil Society Dialogue held in Maseru on 24 November 2025. 🌿✨
This invitation marks an important milestone for us, showing that the work we do on environmental protection, youth empowerment, and community resilience is being recognized at national and international levels. 🙏💚

The dialogue brought together key civil society organizations to engage directly with the European Union on major thematic areas such as water, energy, governance, natural resource management, and the progress of EU-funded initiatives. 🇪🇺🤝🇱🇸

For POT, being in this space meant carrying the voices of our communities, representing grassroots environmental action, and contributing to discussions that influence Lesotho’s sustainable future. Every seat we take in such forums is a victory for climate resilience, community empowerment, and the protection of our natural environment. 🌍🌱

🌿 PLANT ONE TREE | GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AWARENESS MESSAGE

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is one of the most devastating and widespread human rights violations of our time. It affects women, children, and even men — leaving behind emotional, physical, and psychological scars that often last a lifetime. As Plant One Tree, we cannot remain silent in the face of such pain and injustice.

This Month, we stand with survivors, families, and communities who have endured the trauma of violence. We refuse to normalize abuse. We refuse to allow silence, fear, and stigma to protect perpetrators. We believe in a society where every individual — regardless of age, gender, or background — is safe, respected, and treated with dignity.

GBV does not only happen in dark corners. It happens in homes, schools, workplaces, and public spaces. It thrives where fear suppresses truth, where culture is misused to justify harm, and where communities choose silence over accountability. Today, we say ENOUGH.

At Plant One Tree, we commit ourselves to being part of the solution.
🌱 We advocate for awareness, safety, and justice.
🌱 We challenge harmful attitudes that normalize violence.
