We are excited to share that we had the privilege of coordinating a powerful outreach at Bishop Mohlalisi Secondary School (Bethany Ha Matholoana). Here we created a safe space where young voices were heard, valued and empowered. 🤍🌸

Learners from Grades 8-11 engaged on meaningful conversations on issues that truly matter:
•Human Rights and inclusion
•Mental health awareness
•Sexual Education and HIV awareness
•Rape reporting

Through open dialogue, interactive sessions and honest conversations, we were able to equip and uplift learners, especially those who lack access to such support and information.

We also spent time with educators and shared practical ways to better understand and support learners, and to navigate sensitive issues within the school environment.

This is one of the intentional steps in building safer, more informed and empowered school communities.

We would like to acknowledge and appreciate those who walk this journey with us:

National AIDS Commission youth consortium
Inclusive Tech World
International Human Rights Lab
Malefane Matele (Social Worker)

and everyone who took part🤍

On 7 February, the Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO proudly hosted the opening of the exhibition
“Echoes of Independence: 60 Years of Lesotho Through Art.”

The event brought together artists, partners, and guests to celebrate Lesotho’s creative voices in honour of the country’s 60th Anniversary of Independence.

The evening featured inspiring artist talks, during which participating artists presented and discussed their works. Guests also enjoyed the reading of a short story and poems, adding a powerful literary dimension to the celebration.

The programme was expertly moderated by Thabo Marabe, and the event was honoured by a keynote address from the Secretary-General of the Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO, who highlighted the importance of culture and youth creativity in national development.

We thank all the young Basotho artists, partners, and guests who made this evening a true celebration of art, identity, and dialogue.

The first-ever CSW70 Lesotho Youth Consultation was convened under the leadership of Gender Equality Coordinator Mafusi Shai, with support from Libuseng Malitse, under the theme “Ensuring and Strengthening Access to Justice for Women and Girls.” The consultation brought together 26 young people, including youth advocates, persons with disabilities, young legal professionals, and civil society representatives.
Participants highlighted barriers to justice such as harmful cultural norms, fear and stigma around reporting gender-based violence, economic dependency and poverty, limited access to justice for persons with disabilities, and weak law enforcement. Youth stressed that laws alone are not enough and called for survivor-centered, disability-inclusive, and youth-responsive justice systems that ensure accountability and real access to justice for women and girls in Lesotho.

HIV is not a moral failure, it’s a health condition. Let’s end the stigma, encourage testing 💉, promote treatment 💊, and spread love, not discrimination ❤️✨
To everyone affected by HIV: you are seen, valued, and loved❤️🤍
World AIDS Day reminds us to show kindness, understanding, and support. 🤝🎗️It’s 2025 Let’s fight misinformation 🧠❌, not people living with HIV ❤️🤝.

Behind every powerful movement, there is a mind that dares to imagine something better.

For the Empowerment for All Dialogue, that mind belongs to Amelia Mafusi Shai, a passionate Gender Equality Coordinator whose leadership has reshaped how communities understand equality and inclusion.

Amelia envisioned a space where men, women, boys, girls, and persons with disabilities could come together and rethink what gender equality truly means beyond stereotypes, expectations, and the limitations society often imposes. She saw the gaps, felt the weight of traditional norms, and took bold steps to spark a conversation that was honest, inclusive, and transformative.

Rooted in the SDG principle of Leaving No One Behind, Amelia continuously reminds us that gender equality is not a women’s issue, it is everyone’s future.

Through her guidance, the dialogue became more than an event; it grew into a movement where voices are heard, perspectives are widened, and communities are inspired to challenge outdated beliefs.

Her dedication ensured that empowerment was not just spoken about, but experienced.
A call to action for all Basotho: to build a society where every person regardless of gender, identity, or ability, has a fair chance to grow, lead, and thrive.

If you want to be great tomorrow, start acting like it today.

At our Empowerment Session, Patience Masupha captivated the room with a powerful message: young people must start seeing themselves as the brands they want to become.

She reminded us that in today’s world, your behavior, both online and offline, is part of your brand. Every post, every comment, every picture, every interaction speaks on your behalf long before you ever step into a room.

“Your future employer, investor, or sponsor might already be watching you without you knowing,” she said.

Mathe encouraged the youth to think beyond the moment and carry themselves with the confidence, discipline, and professionalism of the future leaders they aspire to be. She emphasized that a strong social media presence isn’t optional anymore, it’s a tool for visibility and opportunity.
If you’re not showcasing your skills, your talent, or your work, it becomes easy for the world to overlook your brilliance.

Your Network Determines Your Net Worth

She also spoke passionately about the power of building the right network.

Surround yourself with people who inspire you, challenge you, and help push you to the next level. Don’t shy away from connecting with those who have already made it.

“Associate with people who can help take you where you want to be.”

Who Is Mathe Patience Masupha?

A dynamic young leader and advocate from Lesotho, Mathe serves as a HER Voice Ambassador, championing the rights and well-being of adolescent girls and young women.

Her words reminded us that the future belongs to those who prepare for it today and present themselves with purpose.

Imagine walking into a room where the first thing people notice about you isn't your smile, your passions, or your talents, but rather your physical abilities. For many individuals with disabilities, this is a daily reality.

Let's talk about inclusivity! As Mr. Kopano T'silonyane so perfectly puts it, disability is not just about impairment, but about the barriers that prevent full participation in society. Disability-based discrimination is a major hurdle, where people are judged on their impairment rather than their capabilities.

This mindset assumes people with disabilities need help without considering their perspectives or autonomy. It's time to shift our focus from limitations to possibilities! Let's empower individuals with disabilities, recognizing their value and contributions. By promoting accessibility, understanding, and inclusivity, we can create a society that values diversity and empowers everyone to thrive.

Can we celebrate the strengths and contributions of individuals with disabilities, rather than defining them by their impairments?

Let's work together to break down barriers and promote equal opportunities for all. Imagine a world where everyone is seen for who they are... "

Today we honored Therapy Hub.,Inc 's invite for a walk aimed at Su***de Prevention and Mental Health Awareness.

The discussions focused on breaking the silence around su***de, sharing tools for early intervention, and breaking stigma of mental health. They were reminding us that Mental health is just as important as physical health.

The gathering also emphasized the urgent need to address mental health challenges, especially among young people, and to create safe, stigma-free environments for support and healing.

Together, we continue to champion SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

Your feelings are validated and matter. Therapist, counselors and facilities like Mohlomi Hospital are there at our exposal for us to access help we need, not because we're crazy, but because mental illness is just like any other illness that requires treatment.

You Matter, I Matter, We All Matter.

Leadership Insights: Are you a Leader?
By: Thandie Faith Kubere
During the Empowerment For All dialogue hosted by the Youth Desk, the spotlight was placed on equipping young people with practical tools for leadership. The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GEM Institute, Mpho Letima, encouraged young people to look deeply into their own skills and talents and explore how these can be used to lead others forward.

She emphasized that leadership takes many forms, highlighting three key types:

1. Personal Leadership — the foundation of all leadership, rooted in self-discovery, one’s character and charisma, and the ability to reflect and lead oneself forward.

2. Positional Leadership — leadership that is tied to titles or ranks. This form is often competitive, as individuals strive to climb to higher levels of authority.

3. Leadership as a Process — leadership beyond positions or ranks, where one’s skills, charisma, and contributions create value for others. Here, the presence of supportive systems is crucial to help individuals grow and sustain their leadership.

Mpho posed an important challenge to participants:
👉 “Do young people today have the systems they need to move from one stage to another? Do we have the right people in place to identify and nurture the talents of young people so they can progress?”

She noted that many young people struggle because they do not yet know where they belong, nor are they aware of the support systems that can help them unlock their potential. Platforms such as the Unesco Youth Desk of Lesotho Lesotho National Commission for Unesco UNDP Lesotho GEM Institute and other organizations play a vital role in guiding youth and providing essential resources to help them flourish.
