Breaking Barriers Through Experience: LDTC Capacity Training Session
In honour of celebrating World Braille Day,LNDB proudly collaborated with LDTC and LNLVIP on the 23rd January to deliver a highly engaging and impactful capacity training session for LDTC staff which was a day dedicated to learning, inclusion and lived experience.
The session began with an introductory segment followed by informative presentations that unpacked disability, inclusion and the importance of creating accessible environments. Participants were actively engaged and eager to learn as discussions unfolded.
One of the major highlights of the day was the Braille Introduction Session. Attendees were introduced to Braille and guided through a short practical lesson on the Braille alphabet. The excitement was palpable as some participants successfully managed to write their own names in Braille. This was a powerful and memorable moment that truly brought learning to life.
After lunch, the atmosphere shifted into a refreshing experiential session. Participants took part in blindfolded football, an activity that may sound unusual but is absolutely possible!
The specially designed ball produces sound, allowing players to track it using hearing rather than sight. Brailled playing cards were also used, adding to the hands-on experience.
Through these interactive activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of visual impairment, inclusion and accessibility. More importantly, the mandate of the capacity training was effectively met which was building awareness, empathy and practical knowledge.
A big thank you to LDTC and LNLVIP for the collaboration and commitment to promoting disability inclusion. Together, we continue to build a more inclusive society.
