"The selection of this theme is particularly timely as it aligns with the African Union Theme of the Year 2026, which focuses on ensuring the sustainable management of water resources and strengthening safe sanitation systems across the continent.

Water is not a privilege; it is a basic human right and an essential condition for ensuring every child's health, education, dignity and healthy development."

"This year we face the truth that is silent but deadly. Unsafe water๐Ÿšฐ, broken pipes, long roads, children with disabilities unable to access water๐Ÿซง
all because of rough infrastructure, children missing their childhood, travelling long distances to acquire safe drinking water. This is why the African Union teaches us to guard the rights of every child in Africa, the theme directly links with the broader AU theme of the year: ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goal of agenda 2063."
