*ON THE MOVE FOR CHRIST*

📜📜 *READ* : ACTS 9:35–43

🔑 *KEY VERSE* :"And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord"(Acts 9:35).

*MESSAGE* :
English churchman of the 18th Century, John Wesley, travelled over 250,000 miles throughout the British Isles and beyond to deliver the gospel of Christ to multitudes who braved the elements to hear him. They responded to Wesley's own scant consideration for personal comfort in the quest to fulfil the demands of the Great Commission. Active till 1791 when he died, the evangelist journeyed largely on horseback in a hectic annual schedule that took him through craggy mountainous regions, valleys, plains and riverine territories.

Several centuries before Wesley, Apostle Peter had demonstrated that obeying Christ's commandment to tell the world about Him was not a stationary or closet affair. It entailed the strategy of a peripatetic lifestyle. Peter left Jerusalem and "passed throughout all quarters." He followed in the footsteps of his Master, "who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." The apostle's trips were packed with stunning outcomes: edification of the saints, healing a bedridden man, bringing back to life a dead woman and leading crowds to Christ.

Reassuringly, the principles of effective evangelism laid down by our Lord that worked for Peter and Wesley are still standing, tall and beckoning today's believers who desire to sn**ch sinners from the pit of perdition they are treading. The Lord did not entertain inaction, nor did He brook a monastic lifestyle. He sought fresh ventures to preach in new frontiers. Unafraid of obstacles, Jesus moved from place to place to teach, heal and bring hope to the lost. He knew He had limited time. So He optimised scarce resources.

In our age marked by the closeness of Christ's Second Coming and the deluge of false doctrines, the Church and genuine followers of Christ must leave their cosy corners and mount aggressive great commission campaigns everywhere. It must be a global blitzkrieg taking place in communities, neighbourhoods and nations over all strata of the society. We must dominate the social sphere with loud proclamation that Christ is the answer to the ills threatening to devour man.

✍️ *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* :We need Christ's unfailing evangelism fevour to win the lost for heaven.

🔑 *KEY VERSE*: _“And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ”_ (Mark 8:29).

📜📜*READ*: MATTHEW 8:27-30

*MESSAGE*:
Bible scholars reveal that there are over 3,300 questions covering various topics and aspects of human endeavour in the Scripture. Some questions are open-ended, reflective, and probing (which was used by the Lord in our text today). Questioning techniques are invaluable tools for finding out or revealing some truths. They help uncover hidden truths, understand the thoughts of the heart, and determine a learner ’s level of understanding and acquired knowledge. When misgivings, misunderstandings, or stereotyped ideas about a subject arise, questions are beneficial. Questions have been powerful tools for aiding discoveries and establishing profound truths.

In today’s passage, we have a practical instance. Christ knew there were varied perceptions about His person and would not leave His disciples in confusion. He, therefore, asked them this all-important question in our text, so they could see the truth on which the Church is built. The religious oligarchy queried the messiahship of Christ. After all, they knew His parents, siblings, and family’s business. No wonder they presumed that He was not genuine, but working against the Old Testament traditions, and they were determined to eliminate Him. They wrongly assumed that He worked miracles through the prince of devils, Beelzebub, and not the power of God, denying His miraculous power. The Lord Jesus used the questioning technique to clear doubts and wrong notions about Himself. He was not John the Baptist, Elias or one of the prophets, but Christ the Messiah, as confessed by Simon Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit.

What men know about Christ determines what they receive from God. Christ is the truth personified. Ignorance about His person implies spiritual blindness, darkness, condemnation and death. In contemporary times, people still doubt the validity of scriptural truth about Christ’s identity and deity. They turn a deaf ear to the teaching of Christ as the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, and therefore is Lord of all. They erroneously hold to religion, which lacks the power to save from sin and deliver from the activities of the powers of darkness. They abandon the truth but believe in lies and fables, eventually leading to their perdition.

The Lord has not changed; and even today, He still questions all: “What do people say about me? What do you say about me?” The answer is obvious, if you are saved and your sins cleansed. It remains for such believers who have experienced His saving grace, to share their experience with others who have not tasted the benefits of the sacrifice of Christ, so they too can be saved, and granted an eternal abode in His kingdom.

🔑 *KEY VERSE*:
“And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him” (Luke 23:8).

*MESSAGE*:
D r. A. W. Tozer, in his book, The Pursuit of God, wrote, ”The modern scientist has lost God amidst the wonders of His world; we Christians are in real danger of losing God amidst the wonders of His word.” Many people who know about Christ have failed to recognise him as the Saviour of the world.

In our text, the Jewish religious leaders wanted Jesus crucified based on trumped-up charges. Pilate, who was the judge, pronounced Christ guiltless but treated Him as a tool to pacify the Jews and mend his broken relationship with Herod. On his part, Herod was anxious to see Christ only as a miracle worker. Like multitudes today, he was a curious seeker eager to observe supernatural signs and wonders.

Many people still come to Christ for reasons less than why He came into the world: to seek and save the lost. Some see Christ in the mould of a Father Christmas, who merely supplies their needs, without first seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. No wonder the prayers for promotion, healing, deliverance, material supply, and victory over enemies usually echo louder than the prayer of repentance in churches of today. Some attend church services for emotional experiences or simply to be in the right social or political circle. Others, like Governor Felix, are eager to discuss religious matters but postpone their salvation to a convenient time that may never come.

Let us remember that salvation from sin and its consequences should be the primary reason for seeking Christ. Other benefits are mere icing on the cake.

*🔑KEY VERSE:* “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” - (PSALM 127:1).

There was the story of a child who was given a complex jigsaw puzzle to work on. In a short time, the pieces were all put together. A visiting friend was amazed and asked, ‘How did you do that so fast?’ ‘Oh, you see, there is a picture of Jesus on the other side, and I just put that one together.’ The complexities are adjusted when the Lord Jesus is given His rightful place in the home.

The home setting is God’s initiative. He, therefore, remains the Alpha and Omega in all issues, including those concerning the home. He is the repository of wisdom for all family matters. If given the right as the Head of the family, love, joy, peace, harmony, wellness, and progress abound and flourish. The reverse is the case when God is not in control of a family. The values taught at home determine the behaviour of members of different families outside; hence, the axiom: Charity begins at home. Children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.

The Holy Bible, God’s inerrant word, remains the standard for valuable guidelines on proper parenting that can transform families and society. We cannot get parenting right if its precepts are despised or neglected. People who wish to pass on godly values to their generations and add value to the larger society must adhere to biblical teachings on all aspects of life. People like Moses, Samuel, and Timothy were products of good home training. In contemporary times, we have the likes of Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights leader who credited his father, Martin Luther King Sr., and his mother, Alberta Williams King, for instilling in him a strong sense of morality, justice and compassion.

A sage has correctly said that there is nothing more influential in a child’s life than the moral power of a quiet example. For children to take morality seriously, they must see adults who live by high moral standards. We cannot leave this significant role solely in the hands of caregivers, school tutors, or the government. There is no irredeemable situation with God; whatever your situation, trust and pray, believing there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

*GET HEAVENLY WISDOM*

🔑 *KEY VERSE* :
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace” (James 3:17,18).

📜📜 *READ* :James 3:14-18

Martin Luther once shared a thought-provoking story about two goats that met on a narrow bridge over deep water. With no room to backtrack or fight, one goat decided to lie down, allowing the other to pass safely. The moral here? Strive for peace, even if it means setting aside your own pride, but never compromise your principles. True wisdom is gentle, pure, and considerate, always showing respect for others.

In this passage, James explains his message about the tongue by illustrating what a truly wise person looks like—someone whose wisdom shines through their good deeds. He draws a clear line between earthly and heavenly wisdom, describing the former as rooted in envy, selfish ambition, and deceit. This worldly wisdom is not just unspiritual; it is demonic, creating chaos and all sorts of evil. On the other hand, heavenly wisdom is pure, peace-loving, gentle, approachable, and overflowing with mercy and good deeds. It is impartial and sincere, leading to a rich harvest of righteousness.

The danger of living by worldly wisdom is devastating—it can blind people to its harmful effects, steering them away from God. Those who rely on earthly wisdom often end up justifying negative traits, such as envy, hypocrisy, arrogance, and conflict, mistakenly believing these are necessary for survival. This kind of thinking is spiritually deadly. In our relationships, pursuits in life and career advancements, we need wisdom to navigate challenges that will come our way. Within the church, those who claim to be wise but are driven by an insatiable desire for power create division and inflate their own egos, proving that their so-called wisdom doesn’t come from above.

In contrast, heavenly wisdom is life-giving. It guides those who possess it along the path of salvation, moulding them into portraits of holiness and righteousness. When Scripture tells us, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7), it encourages us to pursue the wisdom from above—wisdom that not only saves but also preserves us for God’s eternal kingdom.

✍️ *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:* The difference between godly wisdom and worldly wisdom is where they come from.

🔑*KEY VERSE*: “And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen” (Ruth 2:20).

*MESSAGE:*
Marty Via’s American family’s relocation to Waycross, Georgia, is a remarkable example of divine guidance for the faithful heart. After a construction accident, Marty felt God’s calling to ministry through his pastor’s gentle nudge. Through prayer, the name “Waycross” came to him and his family, even though they had never heard of the town. Trusting God, they inquired and moved there despite the challenges of finding a job or understanding their purpose. One night, Marty received specific instructions to launch a benevolence mission, providing food and clothing to those in need. This mission became a renowned testament to faith and God’s provision.

Much like Marty Via, Ruth had chosen to follow the path of faith to the unknown land after losing everything in her native tribe of Moab. But the invisible hands of God guided her as she ‘hoped against hope’ while being prodded on by Naomi, her mother-in-law. Simple faith out of a sincere heart has unfailing dividends for those who hold on to God, regardless of mounting odds against them. The hand of providence led Ruth to the fields of Boaz, the relative of her late husband, who eventually married her.

Let nothing stand in your path of faith if you sincerely believe that all things are possible with God. Ruth was a humble widow. She defied age. She discounted the deficit of her marital status as a widow and did not let her foreign pedigree deter her. God remembered her and rewarded her faithfulness. God knows your travails and trials to be settled maritally. He knows your aspirations to have a breakthrough in your career and business. Hope still. If you don’t despair, He will guide His agents to you who will fulfil your aspirations.

*MESSAGE:*
Years after the death of America’s beloved 30th president, John Calvin Coolidge Jr, his remarkable story became public knowledge. In the early days of his presidency, Coolidge awoke one morning in his hotel room to find a burglar digging through his pockets. Coolidge engaged the thief in quiet conversation and discovered he was a college student who had no money to pay his hotel bill or buy a ticket back to campus. The president counted $32 out of his wallet and handed it over to the trembling thief, declared it to be a loan, and advised the young man to leave the way he had come, to avoid the Secret Service. Unbelievable, but true!

In similar fashion, God’s treatment of Israel and His desire to point them on the right path is truly amazing. Instead of indignation, God said, ‘I will help them.’ God truly was displeased with Israel, but just like President Coolidge’s mercy for the thieving college student, He chose to help. God, in His mercy, always chooses pardon over punishment. While His anger boils against any furtherance of evil, His mercy pursues every avenue for reconciling men to Himself. “Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy” (Zechariah 1:14).

God’s mercy is still available for all today. Though He does not delight in the sin and rebellion of the world, still He does not delight in their death and eternal damnation. It is His mercy that has been keeping the world from falling off the precipice, but this will not last forever.

While His mercy is at work, let’s quickly plunge into God’s healing stream. This is the best option for the sinner. The day of grace will not last forever. All those who scorn and reject God’s offer of mercy today will have to face His eternal judgment. Making peace with God through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, enables us to enjoy the full blessings of God’s providence and grace.

“Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel” (2 Timothy 2:8).

*📜📜TEXT:2TIMOTHY 2:8-13*

*MASSAGE*:
Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the venerated and influential minister of the London Metropolitan Tabernacle, is remembered for many things. His preaching, catalogues of sermons, autobiography, Bible commentaries, numerous books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, and hymns remain exceptional gifts to the body of Christ worldwide. However, none of these is as pungent and memorable as his first words on his first day on the pulpit of the Metropolitan Temple church. “I would propose that the subject of the ministry of this house, as long as this platform shall stand, and as long as this house shall be frequented by worshipers, shall be the person of Jesus Christ… if I am asked what is my creed, I reply, “It is Jesus Christ.”… the legacy to which I would pin and bind myself forever, God helping me,...is Jesus Christ, who is the arm and substance of the gospel, who is in Himself all theology, the incarnation of every precious truth.”

In his second letter to Timothy, his faithful and reliable son in the Lord, Paul the apostle did not forget to emphasise the centrality of Jesus Christ and His gospel. In the first letter, Paul warned Timothy to beware of false prophets and teachers of the law whose focus is fables and genealogies, devoid of godly edification. Now, Paul concludes his letter to Timothy by reminding him that while laying the foundation of doctrinal purity, Jesus Christ remains the cornerstone. The true gospel is incomplete without teachings on the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Removing a cornerstone is akin to degrading the whole structure. Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the gospel of salvation to the world. Without Him, gospel preaching, crusades, church meetings and other religious activities are not worth the effort. The central focus of the Christian life and ministry therefore must be Jesus. If we are going to experience a strong and firm Christian life that cannot be shaken and moved by the storms of life, then we must ensure that we stay on this cornerstone. Those who shift their gaze and emphasis away from Christ to embrace the popular trends of modernism and relative philosophies will definitely sink and be swept away by the tides and storms of life. Nothing must separate us from the love of God revealed through salvation in Jesus Christ, our Saviour. This is our sure anchor for life and eternity. Jesus only.

🔑 *KEY VERSE*
“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee” ( Jeremiah 31:3).

📜📜 READ: Jeremiah 31:1-14

*MESSAGE*
The love of God for humanity is unfathomable. This love is manifest at the creation of human being (Genesis 1:26-28). Created by God, we are also blessed by Him: “...God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion...”

The depth of God’s love is demonstrated in His giving us His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins. “…that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them…” (2 Corinthians 5:19).

Let’s count our blessings through His love. One, spiritual adoption of all humans into God’s family is made possible through His love (Jeremiah 31:1). Two, He promised restoration for those who have gone astray and assured that “they shall not stumble” anymore. Three, for those who embrace the love of God, the avalanche of God’s blessings and provision as revealed in our text includes His protection and care (verse 10). Four, redemption from the enemy that is stronger than man (verse 11), abundant provisions (verse 12). Five, concerning His own, God said “…their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all” (verse 12). What a blessing! He further promised: “…for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow” (verse 13).

Has life been treating you harshly as it happened to the children of Israel in Egypt? Embrace the love of God today by turning away from what displeases God in your life. The fullness of God’s love has been demonstrated in His giving Jesus Christ to us. Consider surrendering your life to Christ today and enjoy a fuller demonstration of God’s love and care. We can only reciprocate God’s love by walking in obedience to His word.

*🔑KEY VERSE*
"If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him" (John 14:7).

*📜📜TEXT:* JOHN 14:5-11

*MESSAGE:*
E . Stanley Jones, an American Methodist missionary whom Time Magazine called the world’s greatest Christian missionary in 1938, shared the following account of a missionary who lost his way in an African jungle: He could find no landmarks, and the trail vanished. Eventually, stumbling on a small hut, he asked the native living there if he could lead him out. The native nodded. Rising to his feet, he walked directly into the bush. The missionary followed on his heels. For more than an hour, they hacked their way through a dense wall of vines and grasses. The missionary became worried: “Are you sure this is the way? I don’t see any path.” The African chuckled and said over his shoulder, “Bwana, in this place, there is no path. I am the path.”

How this resonates with the assertion of Christ in response to Thomas’ bewildering question: “...how can we know the way?” Beyond expectation, Christ laid bare the tripod on which the journey to heaven rests. The first is the Way. Jesus said: I am the Way...” His Name is the only one that opens the pearly gate for pilgrims in heaven. Peter sums it up thus: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” The lesson is that there is no other way, creed, religion, or esoteric philosophy. The way to heaven is Christ alone. Through faith in His substitutionary death on the cross and subsequent resurrection, we receive salvation.

Jesus is the Truth. He alone reveals the Father. He is the only dependable source of redemptive revelation. The Truth draws us to the Father and leads us into adoption in His family. He sanctifies, guides, and makes us free. Jesus also is the Life. He is the source and giver of life. Jesus is the light of life who came to give life and to give it more abundantly.

When we come to know Christ in His fullness, our feet are planted on the highway to heaven, we are free and saved from errors and we have life in abundance. The onus is on the believer to help others who are still searching for the Way, and lead them to Jesus. By so doing, they too will share from the abundant life in Christ.
