Last week our team at had the privilege of conducting a community health outreach in Balahun (often called Balahun Old Town by locals), Kolahun District, Lofa County — a rural community in Liberia defined by resilience, warmth, and real need.

Working with our local volunteers, we provided health education through group talks on disease prevention and healthy behaviors, screened for common conditions, and offered basic care and referrals.

Reaching Balahun required crossing a narrow rope footbridge commonly known as a “monkey bridge.” The crossing was challenging: the bridge swayed, some ropes were frayed, and the current below ran strong.

The journey reminded us how physical barriers increase the difficulty of accessing health services and how determined communities and health teams are to connect and care for one another.

Thank you to the people of Balahun, our volunteers, and local leaders for their hospitality and collaboration.

We remain committed to strengthening community health systems and reducing access barriers in rural Liberia.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) are human rights that guarantee every person the freedom to make informed, voluntary, and dignified choices about their body, sexuality, and reproduction, without discrimination, violence, or coercion.
When SRHR are respected, individuals, families, and communities are healthier, more empowered, and better able to thrive.

At Access4Health, we believe that adolescents and young people deserve access to accurate information, quality services, and non-judgmental care for their sexual and reproductive health. This includes access to modern contraception, comprehensive sexuality education, safe pregnancy and childbirth services, and protection from sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices.

Our team is committed to creating safe spaces where everyone—especially girls, young women, and vulnerable groups—can ask questions, seek support, and make informed decisions about their health and future.
