Did you know?
1.8 billion women still lack basic legal protection.
1 in 3 women will experience violence in her lifetime.
90–95% of all deepfake sexual images target women.
And 16–58% of women face digital violence, according to the World Bank Gender Brief and UN Women.
Here in Liberia, the crisis is just as alarming.
From 2024 to date, 3,591 gender-based violence cases have been recorded — with r**e alone accounting for 2,759 of them.
Over 80% of the survivors are children.
These are not just numbers, they are a national and global emergency.
This is why we, ActionAiders, are standing together to demand an end to all forms of violence against Liberian girls and women online, offline, everywhere.

Unedited: crossing rivers and hills documenting - support to LIB Farmers...

The Progressive Farmers Association of Clay, Bomi County is the final farming group the AAL–GAFSP Impact Review Team is meeting with here, as they conclude more than two weeks of assessment across Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, River Gee, Bomi, and Montserrado Counties.

It has been a hectic but highly informative process. For many of us on the team, it provided a first-hand opportunity to better understand the US$19.08M GAFSP grant provided to the Government of Liberia for the implementation of the Smallholder Agriculture Development for Food and Nutrition Security (SADFONS) project.

Over the past two weeks, our team as been documenting the gaps, successes, prospects, lessons learned, and gathering recommendations directly from farmers, county agriculture actors, partners, and other stakeholders involved in the SADFONS Project.

Our findings will be compiled and presented to .

We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the groups who participated in this weeks-long impact review process. 🙏

Right in the heart of Wee District in Grand Bassa county, a small group of famers are making game-changing steps in the cassava cuttings production chain.

The United Community Agriculture Cooperative Society, once a small group of determined farmers, has become a shining example of what the SADFONs project can achieve.

With the support they received, the cooperative has expanded their vision and began cultivating 3 hectares of cassava. What started as a hope has now grown into reality, yielding over 300 bags of cassava per harvest and putting the community on the map.

Today, they stand proudly as the lading producer of improved cassava cutting, supplying most farmers across Wee District. Their success has given them bigger dreams for the future.
But to take the next step, they say the need one more boost, cassava parching and packaging machines to help them scale and add value to their hard-earned harvest.

The United Community Agriculture Cooperative Society (UCCS) is one of the few farming groups assessed for the GASFP that has got some exciting successes under the SADFONS Project.

The group with support from SADFONS is one of the Cassava Cotton multipliers.

The cooperative members expressed excitement of how beyond supplying other farmers the cassava cotton, they are now into gari and fufu production and has become a major distributor of gari and fufu products to buyers and consumers from across Grand Bassa, Harbel, and parts of Monrovia.

Due to the huge demands for their cassa products, the cooperative has set a new goal to expand its value chain, but they asking for SADFON to provide them with the Garii parching and Packaging machines.

These two pieces of cassava processing equipment, the lead farmer and members of the cooperative say would get members, particularly women who make up majority of the membership away from the painstaking efforts of taking several hours using their hands and over the 🔥 fire heat patching and processing gari.

Our Story

ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. We believe everyone has the power within them to create change for themselves, their families and communities. ActionAid is a catalyst for that change.

ActionAid works in over 45 countries with over 15 million people worldwide. We have a ‘bottom up approach to decision-making, and uniquely, our head office is located in South Africa. ActionAid Liberia started in 1997 in Liberia as a cross-border initiative managed by ActionAid Sierra Leone. The program moved from humanitarian assistance in internally displaced people’s camps to rights-based development programmes focusing on women’s rights, human security, education and HIV& AIDS. ActionAid Liberia has been operating as a full country programme since 2007. ActionAid Liberia is currently implementing its Second Country Strategy Plan 2019-2023 entitled “Action for Equality and Justice in Liberia” focusing on four key priority areas which looks at: Enhancing protection against sexual and gender based violence and securing economic justice for women, girls and marginalized groups; Improving state accountability and delivery of quality gender responsive p***c services; Promoting Resilient Livelihoods and Sustainable natural Resource Management and Governance; and Advancing transformative women leadership in emergency preparedness, response, and influence in prevention

ActionAid Liberia aims to encourage and promote actions that recognizes, prioritizes, and protects the human rights of women and the most excluded. Utilizing interlinked strategies, AAL continues to engage a wide range of stakeholders and partners as advocates, facilitators, and agents for change. By doing this, we create platforms for women, girls, and key populations, to ensure that their voices, needs, and interest are embedded in local and national policies and interventions. ActionAid Liberia is not only committed to promoting and maintaining solidarity with these groups, but equally sides with them even in the midst of adversity and challenges within the Liberian context.
