Let me take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah for selecting me, along with 100 other young people in agriculture, to participate in the Youth in Agriculture Forum in Gbarnga, B**g County, on June 9. We will have the opportunity to share our experiences, challenges, and aspirations with stakeholders who will be attending the program.

This initiative reflects one of the key pillars of my advocacy for greater youth participation in agribusiness and agricultural decision-making in Liberia. Young people are the backbone and driving force of a stronger and more productive agricultural sector. As a minister, your commitment to including youth voices in shaping the future of agriculture has earned my full support and admiration.

Tomorrow, we, the young people of Liberia, will raise our voices and contribute our ideas toward building a more vibrant agricultural sector, promoting youth empowerment, and creating greater opportunities for the next generation of agricultural leaders. Together, we can help transform agriculture into a powerful tool for sustainable development and economic growth in Liberia.

You may not like him because he may not have had the opportunity to attend some of the biggest schools in the world, but whether you like it or not, he has proven himself to be one of the best Agriculture Ministers in Liberia’s history. He remains one of the ministers positively marketing this government and projecting Liberia to the world.

Another fruitful piece of news has emerged from Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah’s official visit to Cambodia.

Liberia has secured a major US$36 million investment in the rubber sector during the Minister’s working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia. As part of the visit, Minister Alexander Nuetah toured Cambodia’s largest rubber processing factory operated by the Mainland Group — one of Asia’s leading agribusiness and rubber processing companies with operations across Asia and Africa.

The visit was a strategic mission aimed at creating opportunities for Liberian farmers and transforming Liberia’s agricultural economy. Following high-level engagements with the company, the Mainland Group committed approximately US$36 million toward rubber processing facilities and related operations in Liberia. This major investment is expected to strengthen Liberia’s rubber value chain, create jobs, boost local processing, and expand market access for farmers nationwide.

Most importantly, Liberian smallholder rubber farmers will be at the center of this investment. The proposed project includes a structured out-grower scheme that will directly connect farmers to processing facilities through organized supply networks, helping to provide stable markets, improve incomes, and reduce the long-standing uncertainties faced by rubber-producing communities.

The Mainland Group already has ongoing investment interests in Liberia, including plans and initiatives in rice processing, cassava processing, cocoa and coffee value chains, sugar production, warehouse infrastructure, and other agricultural industrialization efforts aimed at strengthening Liberia’s food and export economy.

Speaking during the engagement, Minister Nuetah emphasized that Liberia’s agricultural transformation must directly benefit ordinary Liberian farmers.

“Our priority is to build agricultural value chains that directly benefit Liberian farmers. This investment represents opportunity, stability, and long-term economic empowerment for thousands of rubber-producing households across Liberia.”

Minister Nuetah’s six-day visit to Cambodia continues to focus on attracting strategic investment, strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation, and exploring innovative agricultural models that can support Liberia’s food security and industrialization agenda.

From Cambodia to Liberia, partnerships are being built, investments are being secured, and the future of Liberian agriculture is taking shape.

Why Liberian's women should be supported into Agribusiness?

Women’s involvement and support in agribusiness in Liberia is essential for national food security, economic growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

Women make up a significant portion of the agricultural workforce and play a major role in food production, processing, and marketing across the country.

When women are empowered through access to land, financing, modern farming tools, training, and market opportunities, agricultural productivity increases and rural families experience improved livelihoods.

Supporting women in agribusiness also helps create employment opportunities, especially for young women and girls, while reducing dependency and vulnerability in rural communities.

Women-led agribusinesses contribute to local economies, strengthen household incomes, and improve nutrition and education for children because women often reinvest their earnings into their families and communities.

In Liberia, many women farmers still face challenges such as limited access to credit, land ownership barriers, inadequate storage and transportation systems, and lack of government and institutional support.

Therefore, the government, development partners, private institutions, and donors should invest more in women through agricultural loans, capacity-building programs, mechanized farming support, market access initiatives, and policies that promote gender equality in the agricultural sector.

Encouraging and supporting women in agribusiness is not only about empowering women; it is about strengthening Liberia’s economy, reducing hunger, and building a more productive and self-reliant nation.

Breaking News!
Bringing The Agriculture News To Your Doorstep!

A new era is unfolding for Liberia’s agricultural sector under the visionary leadership of Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah and his hardworking team at the Ministry of Agriculture Liberia - MOA Liberia .

The launch of the historic Soil4Liberia nationwide soil mapping campaign stands as one of the most groundbreaking and landmark achievements in the history of Liberia’s agricultural transformation.

This initiative demonstrates that the Ministry is not only committed to modernizing agriculture, but is also listening to the voices, recommendations, and advocacy of passionate agricultural stakeholders who continue to push for a stronger and more productive Liberia.

Beneath Liberia’s soil lies the future of national food security, economic growth, and sustainable farming and today, Liberia has officially begun uncovering that future through science, innovation, and data-driven agriculture.

Starting in B**g County, technical teams are already on the ground conducting soil sampling, soil profile analysis, and land-use and land-cover assessments that will eventually extend across all fifteen counties of Liberia.

This nationwide exercise will help experts determine the most suitable crops for specific regions, identify nutrient deficiencies within soils, improve agricultural yields sustainably, and guide efficient land management practices for farmers and investors alike.

The project will produce Liberia’s first-ever soil suitability maps, soil fertility and nutrition maps, soil acidity maps, and land-use and land-cover maps a revolutionary development that will reshape how agriculture is practiced across the country.

Most importantly, the initiative will establish Liberia’s first National Digital Soil Information Center, a major scientific platform that will provide farmers, researchers, policymakers, investors, and development partners with reliable agricultural data to support smarter decision-making and increased productivity nationwide.

Speaking at the official launch, Soil Specialist and Ministry of Agriculture Focal Person for the Soil4Liberia Project, Philip T. Singbah described the initiative as transformational for Liberia’s agricultural future, emphasizing that the information gathered will empower farmers with the knowledge needed for proper crop selection, fertilizer application, and sustainable land management.

Supported by the European Union through the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, and implemented in partnership with the University of Liberia Soil, Water and Plant Analysis Laboratory and Central.

Agricultural Research Institute, the initiative reflects a powerful collaboration aimed at repositioning Liberia’s agricultural future.

Indeed, Liberia is no longer guessing what lies beneath its soil the science has begun, and the future of agriculture looks brighter than ever.
