10 Years of UNSCR 2250: Liberia Steps Forward with Youth at the Helm 🇱🇷

Today, we celebrate a decade since the adoption of UNSCR 2250, the first UN resolution to recognize young people as key actors in peacebuilding.

As the Liberian Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security (LCYPS), we proudly join the global community in marking this milestone and we do so with renewed purpose.

📣 On August 29, 2025, Liberia officially launched its National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security (NAP-YPS) a bold, youth-driven roadmap that places young people at the center of peacebuilding and decision-making. Liberia is now the third country in West Africa to adopt a YPS NAP.

🧩 Developed through a highly participatory process, the NAP reflects the voices of youth from across Liberia, including grassroots communities, young women, and persons with disabilities. It outlines strategic priorities for:
- Inclusive participation in governance and peace processes
- Protection of youth rights and dignity
- Prevention of violence and conflict drivers
- Partnerships with youth-led organizations
- Reintegration of youth affected by conflict

💪 This is more than a policy; it’s a commitment to action. And we, the LCYPS, are ready to lead.

🔗 We call on all partners to:
✅ Support the implementation of Liberia’s YPS NAP
✅ Invest in youth-led peacebuilding initiatives
✅ Ensure youth voices shape Liberia’s future

📍The journey continues. Let’s make the next 10 years even more transformative.

In Liberia, young people face challenges that obstruct their participation in peacebuilding, security, socio-economic development. Despite cultural, political, and ethnic differences, a persistent thread of marginalization, exclusion from peace processes, decision-making, economic hardship, and socio-cultural barriers consistently undermines the potential of young people to drive transformational change within their communities.

Since last year, the Liberia Coalition on Youth Peace and Security comprising Youth and Civil Society Organizations, Government of Liberia, and Development partners have been working alongside a Technical Consultant to develop Liberia National Action Plan (NAP) on Youth Peace and Security (YPS) through regional consultations, design workshops, Focus Group Discussions, Key Informant Interviews, Desk Review, Survey, and Peer review.

This week (August 7-8 2025) we will convene in Kakata, Margibi County for a high level validation meeting on the NAP. Thanks to the young people, our partners, and the government for their relentless support toward this initiative. Together we can foster a community that encourage inclusive and participatory peace processes and decision-making.
