Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when the people departing have become a true part of our community.
As we bid farewell to our incredible Canadian interns from the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), we reflect on a shared journey that was far more than just time spent in Liberia, it was impact in action.
They arrived to support the Liberian Learning Center, but their most profound contribution was diving deep into the realities facing our young people.
By leading a community-based research project exploring the effects of substance use disorder and mental health conditions among youth across Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Bassa, they brought light and genuine listening to a complex challenge.
Grounded in cultural understanding, this wasn't just an exercise; it was a critical step toward meaningful change.
But the work didn't stop there.
They immersed themselves fully into our daily lives, contributing to our adult digital literacy program and bringing their own ideas to life through passion-driven initiatives:
Fostering cross-cultural exchange and global connection through a vibrant Francophone and Cuban cultural event.
Empowering high school students to find and express their voices through Story Lab, a free creative writing program.
Bridging communication and understanding between deaf and hearing students with the beautiful All Hands Together initiative.
Engaging 150 young women in open, honest dialogue through an impactful menstrual health workshop.
Shaping confident and curious minds through Identity to Impact, a six-week mindset and STEAM bootcamp.
Educating the local community with a practical health poster series informed by national health documents.
Guiding future visitors through a thoughtfully written magazine, From Cultural Shock to Cultural Competence, A Guide Reflecting Experiences in Liberia.
This is what meaningful collaboration looks like. This is what happens when passion meets purpose.
To our interns: thank you for showing up, for listening, for building alongside us, and for leaving this place better than you found it. The work you started continues to move forward in the hands of the youth and women you reached.
Liberia will always be part of your story, just as you are now part of ours. Safe travels, and onward to even greater impact. 🇱🇷❤️
