We can end malaria, not someday, but in our lifetime.

For the first time, that's not ambition. It's real. Science is advancing faster than ever. New vaccines, treatments, mosquito control tools and pioneering technologies, including gene drive, are in development. Already, 25 countries are rolling out malaria vaccines to protect 10 million children a year. Next-generation mosquito nets now make up 84% of all new nets distributed.

Nationally-led programmes are driving change.

But malaria doesn't wait. When funding falls, it comes back fast, killing hundreds of thousands more children and reversing hard-won gains.

The possibility has never been greater. And neither has the cost of letting it slip.

On this International Women's Day, we celebrate the remarkable young women of the Liberia Malaria Youth Corps whose quiet dedication, tireless advocacy, and unwavering presence in their communities continue to move us closer to a malaria-free Liberia — one conversation, one household, and one life at a time.

Notably, 46% of active LMYC members are young women between the ages of 17 and 34, demonstrating the powerful role young women play in community health leadership and malaria prevention across the country.

Today, we honor their commitment, celebrate their impact, and applaud their leadership in building healthier communities.

The Africa Malaria Progress Report 2025 provides a clear, evidence-based assessment of Africa's malaria response at a critical moment.

While progress over the past two decades has saved millions of lives, recent gains are stalling amid funding pressures, climate shocks, and growing resistance.

The report highlights what is working, where risks are rising, and why a Big Push Against Malaria is urgently needed to get elimination back on track.

The message is clear, Africa can still , but only with sustained investment and collective action.

Liberia contributes 0.6–0.77% of global malaria cases.

According to the WHO 2025 World Malaria Report, Liberia accounts for less than 1% of global malaria cases. While the percentage may seem small globally, the burden on our communities, children, pregnant women, and health system is significant.

This is why our malaria intervention through the Liberia Malaria Youth Corps - LMYC is poised to work with national stakeholders to roll malaria back to zero.

Through youth engagement, social behavior change communication, vaccine advocacy, community outreach, and strong partnerships with the National Malaria Control Program and other stakeholders, we are committed to accelerating progress.

Malaria is preventable. Malaria is treatable. Malaria can be eliminated.

The time to act is now.

Despite this, thousands of women lose their lives to it every year. We have the tools to change this through:

Vaccination: The HPV vaccine is a lifesaver.

Screening: Regular Pap tests and HPV testing can find issues before they become cancer.

Awareness: Knowing the signs and talking to your doctor.
