NAWoLaR Launched to advance Women’s Land Rights in Liberia
The National Alliance for Women’s Land Rights (NAWoLaR) was officially launched today, bringing together civil society organizations, government institutions, legal platforms, and community actors to strengthen women’s land and property rights across Liberia.
NAWoLaR is a national civil society platform that brings together a diverse network of organiztions, community structures, and individual leaders committed to advancing women's land and property rights across Liberia The launch event featured participation from diverse stakeholders, including Green Landscape Initiatives, highlighting the critical role of environmental stewardship in advancing women’s rights.
Despite existing legal protections, many women in Liberia continue to face barriers to land ownership due to entrenched social norms and customary practices. NAWoLaR aims to close the gap between legal frameworks and real-life outcomes by fostering collaboration, advocacy, and evidence-based action among key stakeholders.
NAWoLaR’s mission is to promote, protect, and strengthen women’s land rights in Liberia, ensuring women’s full participation in equitable and sustainable land governance.
The launch marks a renewed national commitment to gender justice and inclusive development, positioning NAWoLaR as a key platform for advancing women’s land rights nationwide.
