As the world marks the close of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, WIMDev proudly stands with women, girls, and allies across Liberia and beyond in the ongoing fight to end all forms of violence and discrimination.

Today, as we conclude this global campaign, we reaffirm that the work does not end here. Ending GBV requires consistent action, stronger policies, survivor-centered support systems, and collective responsibility.
Let’s keep the conversations alive.
Let’s stand together—today and every day—against gender-based violence.

In May 2025, WIMDeV joined the global effort of the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP), the world’s largest and longest-running study on gender representation in news media
GMMP happens every five years, tracking how women and men are represented across print, radio, television, and digital media.
The aim is to produce robust, comparable data — showing who gets to speak in the news, who is quoted as an expert, whose photos are used, and what roles are assigned to different genders.
These data inform advocacy, media-policy change, and efforts to hold newsrooms accountable for balanced representation.

Day 1 of the 16 Days of Activism

Today marks Day 1 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, and Women in Media Development (WIMDev) stands united with global and local partners to demand an end to all forms of violence against women and girls.

This year, we reaffirm our commitment to:
✔ Empowering women and girls through media education and leadership
✔ Strengthening community advocacy and survivor support
✔ Engaging media, policymakers, and young people to challenge harmful norms
✔ Amplifying voices that are too often silenced
✔ Promoting accountability and action at all levels

GBV is not just a women’s issue—it is a human rights issue.
As we begin these 16 days, WIMDev calls on everyone to speak up, stand up, and take action.

Together, we can build a Liberia—and a world—where every woman and girl lives free from fear and violence. 💜
