Reported by Sensee S.K. Johnson
LOWER VIRGINIA, Montserrado County — Career Alternative Reform Empowerment (CARE), in collaboration with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, will host a one-day substance abuse awareness program for five schools in Lower Virginia on May 15, 2026.
The program, themed “Trained Minds Can Change Society,” is aimed at educating students and young people about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of making responsible life choices.
The event will be held at Virginia Christian Academy and is expected to bring together students, educators and community stakeholders.
CARE Executive Director Windell T. Nipey said in an interview that more than five high schools in the area, including Virginia Christian Academy, will participate.
He said the initiative is intended to help students understand the risks associated with drug use and empower them to make positive decisions for their future.
“Our goal is to build informed and responsible young people who can contribute meaningfully to society,” Nipey said.
Saifa S. Momolu, principal of Ndee Miatta Memorial Foundation School, welcomed the initiative and praised CARE for what he described as a timely intervention.
He called on the organization to expand similar programs across the country, noting that substance abuse remains a growing concern among young people.
The awareness campaign is expected to promote a better understanding of the dangers of drug use and encourage a drug-free lifestyle among students in the community.
