Many Liberian schools face broken doors and windows, leaky roofs, and damaged classrooms. At Mr. Lumei’s alma mater - St. John’s / House of Bethany Episcopal School, we’re starting repairs to create safe, bright, and inspiring learning environments.

Education should never be interrupted by circumstances beyond a child’s control.

Yet across Liberia, students face daily barriers—unsafe classrooms, lack of basic hygiene, and environments that make learning difficult.
According to UNICEF, Liberia has one of the highest levels of out of school children, with an estimated 15 to 20 percent of 6 to 14-year-olds who are not in class.

When dignity is protected, attendance improves. When learning spaces are safe, futures expand.

Dignity should never be a barrier to education.

Many students miss school, not because they don’t want to learn, but because they lack basic hygiene essentials. Girls are disproportionately affected during their periods.

According to a 2024 UN Women’s report, periods make millions of girls miss school and negatively impact their health.

The James B. Lumei Foundation provides hygiene kits that support health, confidence, and school attendance. Each kit includes:

✔️ Toothbrush & toothpaste
✔️ Soap & deodorant
✔️Feminine hygiene products for girls
✔️ Other Gender-specific items
🎯 2026 Goal: 500 kits

We’re back, and the mission has never been clearer.

The James B. Lumei Foundation exists to rescue, rehabilitate, and empower at-risk children, especially young girls, in underserved communities. Through safe housing, education, healthcare, mentorship, and strong local partnerships, we create pathways to recovery, self-sufficiency, and hope.

This year, we’re looking to fund and ship 500 hygiene kits for students in Liberia, exceeding our 2025 goal.

Every child deserves dignity, safety, and the opportunity to thrive.
