Women and Children Aid Liberia (WOCAL) has launched a volunteer awareness campaign in Vargueya Town, Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County, Western Liberia, under the theme “African Rainforest -Human Elephants Conflicts Management Around the Gola National Park".
On November 1-2025, a tragic incident occurred in Vargueya Town, Mana Clan, where an elephant attacked and killed two residents and injured one. The increasing presence of elephants in the district has created serious threats to community members and has destroyed several farms.
These farm losses have contributed to growing food insecurity and hunger within the region.
In response, Women and Children Aid Liberia mobilized volunteers to support the affected communities. The organization distributed food and non-food items to victims, students, and impacted local farmers. Volunteers also provided flyers, awareness materials, and branded T-shirts to educate residents on safety measures and promote peaceful human–wildlife coexistence.
