Yesterday, the Alliance on Disabilities in Liberia successfully convened a Technical Stakeholders’ Meeting on the Review and Harmonization of the Disability Bills at the One UN House in Monrovia.

The engagement brought together representatives from government institutions, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), civil society organizations, development partners, and other key stakeholders to collectively review both draft Disability Bills and contribute toward the development of a unified and inclusive Bill that reflects the voices and aspirations of the disability community in Liberia.

The Alliance extends sincere appreciation to all member institutions and stakeholders who participated and contributed to the discussions and recommendations.

Special thanks to World Hope International, Sightsavers, and UNDP Liberia for their invaluable support toward the successful implementation of this important engagement. Your partnership and commitment to disability inclusion continue to strengthen collective efforts toward advancing the rights of persons with disabilities in Liberia.

The process is not yet completed but great progress have been made.
Together, we move closer toward a more inclusive Liberia free of barriers.

📌 Alliance Monthly Meeting Update

We are pleased to share that our recent regular Monthly Meeting, hosted by UNDP Liberia at the One UN House, brought together over 19 institutions, with about 35 in-person participants and 4 online participants.

The meeting featured insightful presentations and engagements from prospective members including the Group of 77 Liberia, Liberia Clubfoot Program (FACORC), and strategic partners including the President’s Young Professionals Program (PYPP), alongside several other stakeholders working to promote the rights, dignity, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

We were also honored to have had the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Programmes, Mr. Louis Kuukpen, present at the meeting. In his opening remarks, he emphasized that disability inclusion must be intentional, deliberate, and fully integrated into development processes in line with the Sustainable Development Goals’ commitment to “Leave No One Behind.” He highlighted that excluding persons with disabilities fuels poverty, inequality, and limits national development, while recognizing that persons with disabilities are capable contributors whose talents and abilities should be leveraged to advance society.

He further reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to promoting disability inclusion through advocacy, accountability, inclusive governance, economic empowerment, accessible opportunities, digital accessibility, and strong partnerships with organizations of persons with disabilities as equal stakeholders. He encouraged participants to engage in frank discussions and develop practical action points to strengthen collaboration and advance inclusion efforts in Liberia.

Generally, the meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment to moving beyond charity-based approaches toward practical, rights-based, and inclusive solutions that ensure persons with disabilities are fully included in national development.

Together, we continue to build a more accessible, equitable, and inclusive Liberia where no one is left behind. ♿🇱🇷

Samuel Deputy, Secretary General of the Alliance on Disability in Liberia, and Taweh Johnson, Executive Director of Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation in Liberia (CAMDL) , representing the Alliance, recently met with the World Bank Group team in Liberia as part of a Digital Skills and Jobs Deep-Dive Diagnostic. The discussion focused on assessing digital capacity, employment opportunities, and inclusion across the country, with both leaders sharing practical experiences and insights on improving access to digital skills and jobs for persons with disabilities in Liberia.

They highlighted key challenges such as access to up-to-date data for people with disabilities, adaptive technologies, gaps in inclusive training, and ongoing social stigma, while also pointing to emerging opportunities within Liberia’s digital economy. Both emphasized the need for inclusive digital initiatives and stronger collaboration among government, development partners, and civil society to build accessible training systems and expand sustainable employment pathways.

As a member of the Alliance on Disability in Liberia, CAMDL is continuing to support digital literacy and inclusive access to information.

We are pleased to share that the Yesterday 📣the Alliance on Disability in Liberia, alongside key stakeholders, held a productive engagement with Hon. Rugie Barry on the proposed Disability Bill.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to:
✔ Appreciate the elevation of disability issues to the legislative level
✔ Gain clarity on the origin, intent, and current status of the bill
✔ Strengthen collaboration to ensure the bill reflects the collective voice of persons with disabilities and stakeholders

Encouragingly, the bill is currently at the committee stage, with a public hearing expected to provide space for broader stakeholder input. Hon. Barry reaffirmed her commitment to an inclusive and participatory process and welcomed contributions to strengthen the bill.

As an Alliance, we remain committed to coordinating inputs, engaging our members, and working collectively to advance a Disability Bill that is inclusive, representative, and impactful.

Together, we move forward in shaping a more inclusive and barrier-free Liberia.

🧩 Autism Awareness | Inclusion in Action

Today, we join the world in raising awareness about autism and reaffirming our commitment to building a society where every individual is understood, accepted, and included.

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a developmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, interact, and experience the world. It is called a spectrum because it presents differently in each person, with varying strengths and support needs.

Many individuals on the autism spectrum have unique abilities, perspectives, and ways of learning. With the right support systems — including inclusive education, early intervention, and accessible services — they can thrive and actively participate in society.

Raising awareness about autism helps promote better understanding, reduce misconceptions, and encourage more inclusive environments in our communities, schools, and workplaces.

As we observe Autism Awareness, let us take time to learn, listen, and support efforts that foster understanding and inclusion for persons on the autism spectrum.
