In Number Five Town, Todee District, Montserrado County, the 𝐆𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 is turning agriculture into a thriving business .

On a 1-hectare demo plot, they are practicing sustainable farming and intercropping by growing: Cabbage 🥬, Bitter-ball (Garden egg) 🍆, and Cucumber 🥒.

With WHH and SHED support under the BMZ-funded project, they’re boosting yields, incomes, and nutrition by directly impacting eleven (11) females and four (4) males, with a total of fifteen (15) farmers and seventy-five (75) household members.

Together, we grow resilience—for a world without hunger.

💡The day featured rich discussions on achievements, lessons learned, and gaps from the current strategy. Teams worked collaboratively to define a shared vision and reframe strategic ambitions, focus areas, and priorities, including key cross-cutting themes like GEDSI, Climate resilience, digitization, partnerships, regional collaboration, research and innovation, and localization.

👏 With strong in-person and online participation from key staff, the workshop marked a crucial step in shaping WHH Liberia’s future programming with renewed clarity and purpose - for a world without hunger.

Monrovia, July 10 , 2025 — World Food Programme Liberia hosted the inception meeting of the 𝗚𝗢𝗟𝗔-𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗣 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 (𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴) 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲.

Funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund and jointly implemented in Liberia and Sierra Leone, the project brings together Welthungerhilfe Liberia, GERAD Liberia, and other partners to improve food security through climate-smart agriculture, equitable access to productive resources, and diversified livelihoods, while advancing peace and resilience in the region.

The meeting focused on aligning shared goals, strengthening financial and monitoring systems, and refining communications strategies. Together, partners are laying the groundwork for impactful, community-driven solutions that link peacebuilding with food systems transformation—for a world without hunger.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 – 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮

Welthungerhilfe Liberia is advancing inclusive and sustainable land governance through Phase III of the Land for Life initiative, implemented in partnership with the Rights and Rice Foundation and funded by BMZ. This phase promotes transparency, participation, and shared ownership by empowering women, youth, and local communities to influence land policy through multi-stakeholder partnerships.

Recent activities include a media roundtable in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, which brought together journalists from three counties (Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Gbarpolu ) to improve communication and public engagement on land issues.

Additionally, a national stakeholder roundtable in Monrovia convened from May 29 to 30, 2025, where participants assessed outcomes of the 2024 National Land Conference and outlined future priorities. Key areas of focus included alternative dispute resolution for land conflicts, increased financial access for women, enhanced tools for tracking customary land formalization, and the use of GIS for land use planning.

These efforts demonstrate how dialogue and collaboration are shaping effective land governance toward achieving a world without hunger.

𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙨 𝙇𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙖 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙡, 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙖 — July 8, 2025

WHH Liberia convened a one-day validation workshop to review and refine findings from its recent Food Systems Labour Market Assessment. The event brought together key stakeholders from the Ministry of Agriculture, other government agencies, international and local NGOs, SMEs, and development partners.

The workshop focused on validating assessment insights and co-designing evidence-based, market-responsive interventions to improve youth employment outcomes, expand access to financial and mechanization services, and address systemic constraints across Liberia’s agri-food value chain.

Facilitated by our Country Office Staff, with technical sessions led by Catie Crowley from DevLearn, participants engaged in collaborative group work to identify practical, inclusive, and sustainable solutions. The day concluded with strategic reflections and priority actions moderated by Catie Crowley.

Enhancing youth participation in the labor market is essential to transforming Liberia’s food systems. This initiative forms part of our collective commitment to building resilient livelihoods for a world free from hunger.

𝐀 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐰

Welthungerhilfe Liberia calls for urgent, coordinated action to stop the ongoing destruction of Liberia’s wetlands and mangroves. These ecosystems are critical for food production, nutrition, livelihoods, and climate resilience, especially for vulnerable coastal and rural communities.

We advocate for a strong Multi-Actor Partnership (MAP) approach, involving government, civil society, traditional leaders, private sector actors, and communities to jointly safeguard and manage wetlands sustainably.

Wetlands are not wastelands. They regulate water, support fisheries and agriculture, and act as natural defenses against floods and climate shocks. Their protection is vital to securing Liberia’s food systems, improving nutrition outcomes, and strengthening resilience in the face of environmental degradation.

Protecting wetlands is not only an environmental responsibility, but also a step toward a sustainable, climate resilient, food-secure future, and a world without hunger.
