In rural communities in B**g and Nimba Counties, families are learning how to save, loan, and plan for the future together.

Through the Rural Savings for the Future (RSF) project, CRS has supported the creation of 78 Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC), reaching 2,128 people, most of them women.

Because many rural families lack access to banks, groups provide a practical alternative. Members save money together, take small loans to invest in farming or businesses, prepare for emergencies, and increase women’s participation in household financial decisions.

These groups are owned and managed by the communities themselves, allowing them to continue long after the project ends. Today, members are using loans to expand small businesses, buy farm inputs, and strengthen their households.

CRS remains committed to practical, proven solutions that expand economic opportunities for communities across Liberia.

Bendu has always wanted to give her baby the best possible start in life.

To build her knowledge and confidence, she joined the Healthy Living through Integrated Nutrition Activities ( ) project training sessions in her community (New Kru Town Community). There, she learned how to breastfeed properly, prepare nutritious foods, and care for her baby’s health.

Today, Bendu confidently cares for her child and applies these practices every day.

“I wanted my baby to grow strong and healthy. Now I know how to care for my child.”

Women oh Women!

Today, we celebrate the strength, leadership, and resilience of every woman across Liberia.

As we mark International Women’s Day, CRS in Liberia joins with partners to champion this year’s theme: "Give to Gain: Supporting Women for National Development."

When we support women, families grow stronger, communities become more resilient, and the nation moves forward.

March is here, and we are celebrating women shaping Liberia’s future.

From farms and marketplaces to savings groups and small businesses, women are strengthening families, growing local economies, and contributing to national development.

As we mark International Women’s Day on March 8 under the theme “Give to Gain: Support Women for National Development,” CRS Liberia is spotlighting women whose determination, combined with the right support, is helping move Liberia forward.

Follow along as we share their stories and celebrate their impact.

Sometimes, change begins with just a conversation. In Gbei-Bleetuo, Nimba County, Liberia, community members sit together and talk openly about gender roles, who does what at home, how decisions are made, and how families can support one another better.

For many, these conversations are not always easy. But they are opening space for understanding, shared responsibility, and stronger relationships.

Through the Catholic Relief Services Rural Savings for the Future Project, communities are building financial resilience through Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) groups, while also learning how more balanced gender roles can help families and communities flourish.

Today, families in Gbei-Bleetuo are learning that when everyone’s role is valued, households grow stronger and communities are better prepared to flourish.

One of Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) goals is to ensure that every child grows and develops to their full potential in a safe and nurturing family.

In Liberia, that vision is becoming a reality through the Healthy Living through Integrated Nutrition Activities (HELINA) project.

Salome Khakie is one of the young mothers participating in the project. When she first enrolled, she wanted to learn how to better care for her baby boy. Through the project, she learned better feeding, hygiene, and caregiving practices. She also gained small business life skills, giving her the confidence and ability to support her household.

Today, Salome holds her son with pride. He is healthy, active, and growing well. She smiles, knowing she now understands how to prepare nutritious meals, maintain a clean home environment, and contribute to her family’s wellbeing.

Stories like Salome’s show that when mothers are empowered, children are stronger, families are more secure, and communities grow healthier together.

We are grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for funding this project.
