As we celebrate World Pharmacists Day, I take pride in reflecting on the crucial role pharmacists play in global healthcare. The theme for this year, “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs,” underscores the expanding responsibilities pharmacists hold in addressing the complex and evolving health challenges worldwide.

In a world where healthcare needs are constantly growing and changing, pharmacists have stepped beyond the traditional role of dispensing medications. Today, we are essential pillars in the healthcare system, actively contributing to disease prevention, patient care, and healthcare education. We are at the forefront of ensuring that patients receive safe, effective, and personalized therapy. From managing chronic diseases to improving medication adherence, our role is crucial in bridging the gap between patients and their access to healthcare services.

The global health landscape is facing unprecedented challenges, including the rise of chronic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, mental health crises, and global pandemics. Pharmacists have proven to be instrumental in managing these challenges. Whether it’s through vaccination drives, counseling on lifestyle modifications, or contributing to research and development, pharmacists have consistently demonstrated our adaptability and unwavering commitment to public health.

Pharmacists are often the first point of contact in many healthcare settings, especially in underserved and rural areas where access to physicians is limited. Our ability to provide essential healthcare services—medication management, patient education, and preventive care—helps alleviate pressure on overburdened healthcare systems. Through community outreach, we foster health literacy and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health.

As a student doctor of pharmacy, I am inspired by the collective work of pharmacists across the globe. I strive to uphold the profession’s values of compassion, responsibility, and innovation. I look forward to continuing my journey in this profession, knowing that each day offers an opportunity to make a lasting impact on patients’ lives and meet the global health needs of our communities.

On this World Pharmacists Day, let us celebrate the past achievements of our profession, while also committing to future innovations that will continue to transform healthcare and improve health outcomes for people everywhere.

Happy World Pharmacists Day!

We congratulate and bid farewell to our esteemed President Emeritus, Dr. Romeo Gono. Dr. Gono is an exemplary leader whose mind shines with innovation, tactful leadership, academic excellence, and a contagious love for the pharmacy profession.

He benefited from the prestigious J.J. Roberts Educational Foundation scholarship from 10th grade through college. He graduated from Nathan E. Gibson in 2013 as the Salutatorian of the class of Philosophers. His scholarship meritoriously earned him several academic accolades, including multiple Best Science Student awards. Our President Emeritus is a science enthusiast who graduated from the United Methodist University (UMU) in 2018 with a BSc degree (Hons) in chemistry. While at UMU, Dr. Gono served as President of the United Methodist University Students’ Council Government in 2018 and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at UMU.

His insatiable quest for education and his enthusiasm for science and analytics led him to the prestigious and rigorously intensive School of Pharmacy at the University of Liberia, where he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. During his student rotation at the nation’s largest referral hospital, JFK Memorial Hospital, his preceptors, colleagues, junior colleagues and counterparts regarded him highly for his in-depth knowledge of drug mechanisms of action, drug-drug interactions, and pharmaceutical care.

Among his numerous achievements as President of our noble association, the Pharmaceutical Students Association of Liberia, he planned and implemented the first National Pharmaceutical Symposium of Liberia. He represented Liberia and the School of Pharmacy at two international pharmaceutical symposia, bringing the association and profession on par with our international counterparts. For the first time since the establishment of the school, a contingent from the Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 Pharmaceutical students association came to Liberia to build pharmaceutical ties. And this was possible through the ingenuity of Dr. Gono. Under his stewardship, we became a full member of the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF), with all associated rights and privileges.

We wish you all the best in your future endeavors, Dr. Gono.

Thank you for your service and impact.

As we celebrate WORLD MENSTRUAL DAY, let’s understand few facts:

What are the phases?
1. Menstrual Phase: it’s usually 1-5 days marked by bleeding and common symptoms.
2. Follicular Phase: it takes 1-13 days for follicle growth in the o***y.
3. Ovulation phase: Day 14, release of a mature egg.
4. Luteal Phase: Days 15-28, thickening of the uterine lining.

Composition of Menstrual Blood:
Blood, tissue, mucus, and secretions. Lasts 3 to 7 days, with an average volume of 30-40 milliliters.

Common Menstrual Disorders:
1. Dysmenorrhea: Painful periods.
2. Menorrhagia: Heavy or prolonged bleeding.
3. Amenorrhea: Absence of menstruation.
4. Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Management depends on the symptoms and the it’s advisable to consult with a Pharmacist or physician if you have irregularities.
