Ambassador-at-Large Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyateh has apologized to the House of Representatives for comments in which he allegedly accused members of the Legislature of receiving bribes from European interests in exchange for the passage of concession agreements.

The Ambassador appeared before the House accompanied by the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah; the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs and Administration; and the Legal Advisor to the President Cllr. Cllr. Bushuben Keita.

During the appearance, Ambassador Koyateh expressed regret over his statement and formally apologized to the House. He assured lawmakers that he would refrain from making such remarks in the future.

Members of the House leadership described the allegations as serious and stressed the importance of the Ambassador substantiating and clarifying the comments attributed to him.

The House further emphasized that diplomats and ambassadors representing Liberia abroad are expected to promote investment opportunities, strengthen bilateral relations, and project a positive image of the country to the international community.

According to the leadership, statements considered damaging to the integrity and reputation of state institutions could undermine investor confidence and negatively affect the country’s credibility.

Following the apology, Montserrado County District #16 Representative Hon. Dixon Seboe proffered a motion requiring Ambassador Koyateh to issue an official written apology to the House.

The motion also called for the apology to be published in four newspapers, four times from Tuesday through Friday, and for the Ambassador to appear on OK FM to publicly retract his statement.

Personal Reflection

I have been up the mountain.

I have been on dry land.

I know this battlefield of life.

I have been segregated, rejected and abandoned in my life.

I know whom I served,

I know who I believe in.

I have seen many doors closed against me.

I have felt and seen true resistance in my life.

I have seen young and old friends, families and church members speak evil against me.

I have seen the devil use many to shut down every opportunity for me.

I know life is a battlefield.

I have the scars on my body.

I know how painful it can be, but through it all I learned to trust in Jesus because he never forgets his own

No one will clap for you when you are going up in life, they're just pretending.

Sometimes when people leave you, maybe it's because you have outgrown them.

Instead of feeling rejected and abandoned, give all thanks to God almighty.

Regards

(The Liberian Senate, May 7, 2026): The Liberian Senate will convene on Friday, May 8, 2026 for the second quarter of the Third Regular Session of the 55th Legislature, in keeping with its amended legislative calendar.

It can be recalled on Tuesday, March 24, 2026; the Liberian Senate adjourned Sine Die for the first quarter of its legislative break to afford Senators the opportunity to interact with their various constituencies.

Amidst the first adjournment of the Liberian Senate, the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai made a request for the Legislature to reconvene for a period of 10 working days, beginning April 9, 2026 and ending April 23, 2026.

The President’s recall of the Legislature was intended to approve the printing of additional Liberian Dollars banknotes as well as the passage of the supplementary budget in the tone of US$53M (Fifty three Billion United States Dollars).

The second quarter of the third session of the Liberian Senate will run from May 9, 2026-As the Senate resumes, discussions will mainly focused on key national priorities, including economic reforms, most especially the proposed request by the Executive to print additional banknotes, concession related issues, as well as development initiatives amongst others.

The Honorable House of Representatives (HOR) is expected to reconvene on Friday, May 8, 2026, marking the beginning of its 2nd Quarter of the 2nd Session in line with its amended legislative calendar.

The resumption follows the amendment of Section 1 of the Act Fixing Day for the Annual Adjournment of the Legislature, which establishes a structured schedule for three adjournments and recess periods, commonly referred to as constituency breaks.

According to the new Act, the first constituency break begins on the third Friday of March and ends on the second Friday of May. The second constituency break starts on the third Friday of July and concludes on the third Friday of October. The third constituency break takes place from the second Friday of December to the Friday immediately preceding the second working Monday of January.

The adjustment aligns with the Public Financial Management (PFM) Law, which redefines the fiscal year to run from January 1 to December 31, replacing the previous July 1 to June 30 cycle.

As the Legislature resumes, discussions are expected to focus on key national priorities, including economic reforms, development initiatives, and budgetary allocations under the new fiscal structure.
