Youth Movement for Collective Action

Youth Movement for Collective Action UMOVEMENT’s mission is to put an end to educational and employment poverty traps in Liberia.

Founded in 2011, Youth Movement for Collective Action (UMOVEMENT), is a registered non-governmental, non-political and non-for-profit organization, which strongly believe that a good education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and can create a better future for children and their families. That is why we promote girl’s education in primary schools by facilitating sponsorships for student

s who otherwise would not have a chance to attend. Primary (Grades 1-6) level, referred to as Primary in Liberia, provides basic skills that include effective communication, simple mathematical computation, understanding the physical environment of the child (civics, geography, ethics, health and hygiene) and those skills which will enable the child to use his/her leisure effectively (arts, crafts, music and cultural dances).

In Loving Memory of Junior Myers

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Junior Myers, a bright and dedicated 7th-grade student, and a proud beneficiary of the UMovement “Give to Learn” Program at BMCA.

Junior passed away after a brief illness, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of academic excellence, integrity, and quiet strength. He consistently excelled in his studies, earning high honors in every academic term, and stood out as a shining example of what determination and passion for learning can achieve.

More than a scholar, Junior was a kind and humble spirit whose dedication inspired his peers. His presence in the Give to Learn program was a gift, and his absence is deeply felt.

On behalf of everyone at UMovement, we extend our deepest condolences to Junior’s family, friends, teachers, and the entire community. We join you in mourning the loss of a promising young life, taken far too soon.

Though his time with us was short, his memory will forever remain a part of the UMovement family.

Rest in peace, Junior. You will always be remembered.

Great initiative.

Today marks the Day of the African Child, an important occasion to highlight the continuing efforts needed to enhance educational opportunities for children across Africa. This year, our USAID/Liberia -supported Elections and Democracy Activity (EDA) embraces the African Union's theme “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now.”

Through the EDA Civics in Schools program, Democracy International and its partners, Liberia's Ministry of Education and UMOVEMENT, are placing posters in Liberian primary schools that highlight children’s rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This initiative supports the Liberian Ministry of Education's efforts to reintroduce civic education into the curriculum. It aims to remind us all of the importance of equipping children with knowledge of their rights, fostering a sense of empowerment, and celebrating this significant day.

USAID, through Democracy International (DI), represented by Chief of Party Antonetta Hamandishe, presented three Yamaha motorbikes to UMOVEMENT in support of the Elections and Democracy Activity (EDA) Project.

On behalf of UMOVEMENT, our CEO, Sir Urais W. Brooks Jr., expressed deep gratitude to USAID for this generous contribution. He reaffirmed our commitment to using these motorbikes for their intended purpose—enhancing monitoring and supervision efforts across EDA counties.

These resources will strengthen our ability to deliver impactful results and improve service delivery through teaching civics in 270 public primary schools.
