Building an electoral system that works for everyone starts long before Election Day!

The NEC Liberia, UNDP Liberia, UN Women Liberia, the United Nations Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD), electoral experts and civil society representatives convened to review the findings of the Gender and Inclusion Analysis of Liberia’s Electoral Legal and Regulatory Frameworks.

The technical debriefing explored practical recommendations to strengthen the participation of women, youth and persons with disabilities in Liberia’s electoral processes, reinforcing the commitment to a democracy where every citizen has an equal opportunity to participate, contribute and lead.

Supported through the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP), partners emphasized that inclusive political participation is not only a democratic imperative but also a key driver of sustainable development and resilient governance.

As Liberia prepares for future electoral cycles, continued collaboration and evidence-based reforms will help ensure that electoral laws, institutions and processes are responsive to the needs and aspirations of all Liberians.

A Powerful Conversation. A Shared Commitment to Action.
As Liberia concluded its high-level UNGA side event on “The Nexus Between Climate, Conflict and Natural Resources: Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Sustainable Development,” a clear message emerged: climate action, sustainable natural resource management and peacebuilding must go hand in hand.
Convened by the Government of Liberia through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the event brought together global leaders, policymakers, climate experts and development practitioners to examine how climate-smart investments and inclusive natural resource governance can help reduce vulnerability, strengthen resilience and sustain peace.
From Liberia’s ambitious vision to unlock more than US$30 billion in natural capital, to compelling calls for greater climate finance, stronger community participation and equitable development, speakers reaffirmed the need for bold partnerships and collective action.
The discussions highlighted Liberia’s commitment to transforming its forests, biodiversity, carbon assets and coastal resources into opportunities for sustainable growth while ensuring that communities remain at the center of climate solutions.
As Liberia prepares to assume the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council in December, the country continues to champion practical solutions that protect people, preserve the environment and build lasting peace. Read more in our feature story below.

Strengthening Liberia’s Democracy Through Inclusive Electoral Reform 🇱🇷

Liberia’s journey toward stronger and more inclusive elections took an important step forward this week as the House of Representatives Committee on Elections and Inauguration convened a two-day technical dialogue on electoral reform.
Bringing together lawmakers, the NEC Liberia , the Law Reform Commission, the United Nations, and development partners, discussions focused on enhancing women’s political participation and representation, including temporary special measures, while addressing broader reform priorities such as seat apportionment and electoral dispute resolution.

Supported through the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP), implemented by UNDP in partnership with UN Women Liberia and the NIMD Liberia , the dialogue reflects a shared commitment to building a more inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral system for all Liberians.

With support from the European Union in Liberia , Irish Aid , and Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia , LESP continues to strengthen democratic institutions and promote meaningful participation in Liberia’s democratic processes.
