Alpha Phi Alpha Condemnation of Violence and Humiliation of Women and Gender-Based Violence

Monrovia, Liberia — May 8, 2026 — The Liberian Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated strongly condemns the recent disturbing incident in which a young woman was reportedly stripped of her clothes in public and subjected to humiliation and abuse. This act represents a grave violation of human dignity, fundamental human rights, and the values of decency and respect that must define our society.

Alpha Phi Alpha sadly observes that gender-based violence and sexual abuse continue to threaten the safety, freedom, and well-being of women and girls across Liberia. Such cruel and degrading acts cannot and must not be normalized, excused, or ignored under any circumstance. The public stripping and humiliation of any woman is not only an assault on the individual victim, but also an attack on the collective conscience of our nation.

The Liberian Alphas calls on the Government of Liberia through the Liberia National Police, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Gender and Children Protection, and all other relevant authorities to conduct a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation into this incident and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice. to the full extent of the law.

We further call for immediate extension of resources for protective support and counseling services for the victim.

As an organization committed to leadership, justice, service, and advocacy, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated in Liberia stands in solidarity with all victims and survivors of gender-based violence.

We reaffirm our commitment to supporting efforts for the protection of women and girls, accountability under the law, and the advancement of a safer and more just society for all Liberians.
Silence in the face of violence only empowers perpetrators. Liberia must send a clear and unwavering message that violence, sexual assault, and the public humiliation of women will not be tolerated.

Monrovia, Liberia – A distinguished delegation of medical professionals from the United States, led by Alpha Phi Alpha’s Dr. Frank Glover, arrived in Liberia on Saturday, February 15, to commence a major surgical outreach at the Jackson F. Doe, Sr. Memorial Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County.

The U.S. Missions Team will perform fifty-six (56) critical urological surgeries during their service mission, providing specialized care to patients who might otherwise have limited access to such advanced procedures. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving lives across Liberia.

The medical delegation is led by Dr. Frank Glover. He is accompanied by a highly skilled team of surgeons and medical professionals: Dr. Joseph Smith, Dr. Niels Johnsen, Dr. Delaney Orcutt, and Dr. Mark Farha, all from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).

The mission is being hosted through a collaborative partnership that includes Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
