Liberia Scout Association Strengthen Safeguarding Through Landmark Stakeholder Training.
YWCA Compound, Monrovia, Liberia β September 17, 2026 β The Liberia Scout Association (LSA) has successfully concluded a weekβlong safeguarding campaign across four counties, training 452 stakeholders in a bold effort to rebuild public trust and strengthen child protection in Scouting.
From September 5β12, 2026, daily workshops ran from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Grand Bassa, Rivercess, Bomi, and Gbarpolu counties as part of Phase II of the Messenger of Peace Project, funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the World Scout Bureauβs Africa Support Center.
Held under the theme βBuilding Stakeholdersβ Confidence and Collaborative Efforts in Promoting Safeguarding in Scouting,β the sessions brought together a diverse coalition of voices β school principals, pastors, imams, community leaders, student representatives, law enforcement officers, and ParentβTeacher Association members. Of the 452 participants, 280 were youth and student leaders and 172 were adults, with gender balance carefully considered throughout.
The initiative directly addressed lingering skepticism among parents, educators, and faith leaders about whether children are truly safe in Scouting. Facilitators introduced participants to the LSAβs βSafe from Harmβ framework, equipping them with practical tools and a shared sense of responsibility for youth welfare.
By placing parents, principals, faith leaders, and law enforcement alongside Scout leaders, the project transformed doubt into partnership. Organizers emphasized that the ripple effects will extend far beyond the training halls: stronger governance, betterβprotected youth, renewed community confidence, and a new wave of young Liberians eager to join Scouting.
As one session closed in Grand Bassa County, the message resonated clearly: Safeguarding youth is not the job of one organization alone, but a promise the whole community must keep.
