Educate West Point (EWP) came into being as a direct result of the passion of one individual - EWP Founder Musa Sheriff. Growing up in West Point, Liberia's largest slum located on the seaside in Monrovia, Musa came to know the challenges all to well as to why 21,000 vulnerable children in the slum remain out of school today. His contagious will to do something about it is what led to the start of
EWP - a Liberian and US sister non-profit focused on improving education opportunities for the children of West Point - a reality. Recovering from two recent civil wars and the Ebola outbreak that wreaked havoc over the country - particularly the West Point slum - EWP will be partnering with the government to strengthen the government education system available to West Point children in the following ways:
1) Provide psychosocial and financial support to the most vulnerable out of school children in the community so they have the means they need to attend school. EWP sponsorship covers two school uniforms, shoes, book bag, school supplies, health care assistance, counseling and food.
2) Support government in strengthening the single government school in West Point for all 75,000 residents - including assistance with infrastructure needs, school supplies, extracurricular programs and teacher training.
3) Over the coming years, work with the government to identify solutions required to address the lack of space in government schools. We hope you will join us in these efforts.
