Lights, Camera, Pitch! πŸŽ€πŸš€

Day One of the Agribusiness Incubator Pitch Competition wrapped up with 11 of 30 agribusinesses securing grant awards ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 to scale their innovative businesses. This three-day competition (November 25–27), taking place in the bustling, strategic city of , located in Liberia's breadbasket, Nimba County is set to propel Liberia's agricultural sector into a commercialized engine of growth and opportunity! Over the next two days, 20 more businesses with strong, bankable ideas will earn grant awards.

The pitch event marks the Cohort II of the agribusiness activity and a USAID-supported Feed the Future initiative. It follows a rigorous six-month incubation program for 80 selected agribusinesses, equipping them with vital business management and technical skills. While not every participant will receive a grant, all are winners – empowered and prepared to drive growth in Liberia's agribusiness sector.

EDUCARE Liberia, in collaboration with the South Partnership Development Corporation, is excited to present the Cohort 2 Agribusiness Pitch Event as part of the Feed the Future and USAID ATI Agribusiness Incubator Activity.

This event will showcase 30 promising agribusinesses from Lot A, representing Nimba, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, and Margibi Counties.

The Agribusiness Incubator Pitch Event aims to provide these early-stage entrepreneurs with an invaluable opportunity to present their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges, including local investors, industry experts, and potential partners. Through this platform, participants will gain constructive feedback, attract funding, and forge strategic partnerships to help scale their ventures. Additionally, this event promotes networking, boosts visibility for creative agribusiness solutions, and fosters knowledge-sharing across the sector.

Following the pitches, winning entrepreneurs will be awarded grants from the ATI Agribusiness Incubator Activity.

We invite the public to attend our event on November 25, 2024, at Jackie Hotels in Ganta, Nimba County, Liberia. The event will begin at 8:00 a.m.

This is day three of the Agribusiness Training in Business Plan Development currently being held at the Jackie Hotel, Ganta, Nimba County.

This day is focusing on the importance of Social Corporate Responsibility (SCR) of Agribusiness in Liberia. This is very key in creating a workable friendly working environment between the Agribusiness and that of the area or country where the business is being operated. This ensures growth attainment because there will always be no lapses in terms of operations and achieving organizational objectives which is aimed at making desirable profit margins.

The training is facilitated by Educare Liberia and its implementing partner, SPDC, a South Africa base consultant firm.

Funding for the project is provided by USAID Liberia through its Africa Trade and Investment initiative.

On day-2, October 15, 2024 of the Market Entry Requirements Training Programme conducted by Educare Liberia and SPDC in Ganta, Nimba County, the training covered various aspects of entering new markets, such as compliance, product standards, and regulatory frameworks. It also included strategies for positioning products, understanding customer demands, and the legal requirements for operating in specific industries or regions.

Today October 14, 2024 in Gompa City, Nimba County Liberia, Educare Liberia and it's South Africa Partner conducted Agribusiness Training Exercise with special emphasis on Business Plan Development. During the training participants learn about the importance of a business plan, key components (executive summary, market analysis, business model, etc.), and how to use the plan for operational success.

Market Research and Analysis: Training usually covers how to conduct market research to understand the demand, competitors, and pricing for agricultural products, helping entrepreneurs define their target markets.

Financial Planning: Entrepreneurs are trained to understand budgeting, cash flow projections, pricing strategies, and profit margins to ensure business viability and sustainability.

Production and Value Chain Analysis: For agribusiness, understanding the value chain (from farm production to consumer) is key. Training includes optimization of the supply chain, distribution networks, and managing inputs and outputs.

Marketing and Sales Strategies: Agribusiness training often includes strategies to market agricultural products, understanding consumer behavior, branding, and the use of digital tools for promotion.

Risk Management: Participants also learn about potential risks in agriculture, such as climate change, market fluctuations, and pest outbreaks, and how to mitigate them through insurance or diversification. Funding is provided by USAID/Liberia ATI

Project Development Officer

Qualifications:
οƒ˜ Host country national;
οƒ˜ University degree in business administration, economics, agriculture, finance, community development or other relevant areas of development preferably at the preferably at Master’s level; an MBA or a high-level academic training in analysis and planning activities of SMEs is preferred;
οƒ˜ Five (5) or more years of professional experience in project development, program management, monitoring, evaluation, and financial analysis, particularly related to small business development;
οƒ˜ Demonstrated experience in developing, designing, and implementing business development projects, including knowledge of the opportunities and challenges, particularly in rural Liberia;
οƒ˜ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively to impart effective skills and services to a broad spectrum of colleagues and grantees;
οƒ˜ Strong writing skills. Must have computer skills, including Excel and Word to generate and analyze spreadsheets and produce documents; experience in using computer models of financial analysis is appreciated;
οƒ˜ Availability to travel frequently throughout Liberia; and
οƒ˜ Fluency in English and at least one or more local language(s) is required. High proficiency in the ability to read in English is required.

Major responsibilities:
οƒ˜ Assist organizations seeking funding in preparing assessments to determine the best use of grant funds for project goals and long-term sustainability, including development of business plans;
οƒ˜ Evaluate the social and economic environment of a potential investment, to support the feasibility, profitability and visibility of its activities;
οƒ˜ Assist applicants in conducting market research, costing and selling prices of their products prior to funding
οƒ˜ Perform financial analysis and full economic potential of a project; Assist applicants in preparing financial projections prior to funding, including cash flow projections to determine the profitability and financial viability of proposed projects; evaluate cash flow needs.
οƒ˜ Assist applicants in developing financial goals performance indicators and targets that will be used in measuring and validating project progress and results;
οƒ˜ Summarize the different analyses of a project document, and make recommendations on the viability of proposed investments;
οƒ˜ Conduct site visits to active and funded projects to monitor and assess the activities, financial records, and capabilities of grant recipients;
οƒ˜ Consider and develop a short list of suppliers of equipment for potential projects to acquire and obtain the necessary supplier's pro-forma invoices required for these facilities;
οƒ˜ Discuss and identify all possible means for the investment to result in a technically and financially viable enterprise;
οƒ˜ Reviews all grantees’ quarterly performance and financial reports to assess progress against implementation plans and performance targets, and makes recommendations for remediation as needed;
οƒ˜ Assist grantees to ensure the accurate and timely submission of their disbursement requests and quarterly financial reports, including verification of information in the reports; and

οƒ˜ Knowledge of participatory development, including participatory research, with some experience of methods such as PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal or PRA);
οƒ˜ Demonstrated experience in preparing training plans, systems of monitoring and evaluation, including performance indicators and measurable targets, and performance evaluation;
οƒ˜ Experience in the assessment of organizational strengths and weaknesses in the participatory development activities;
οƒ˜ Experience in designing and preparing training plans, and in the organization, coordination, and facilitation of training workshops;
οƒ˜ Demonstrated experience supporting small groups and community organizations with project organization and administrative processes;

οƒ˜ Review all performance reports and quarterly financial reports of the beneficiaries, to assess progress and achievement of objectives, recommendations for remediation if needed, and answer questions and concerns of donor;
οƒ˜ Provide and/or organize training and technical assistance to recipients of grants;
οƒ˜ Work with recipients to develop systems to track grantee activity against grant implementation and record the progress of grantees compared to performance measures of the grant;
οƒ˜ Work with grantees to develop monitoring plans based on the status of grant activities;
οƒ˜ Assist grantees in gathering information, during project implementation, needed to attain and remain sustainable;
οƒ˜ Visit grantees to discuss project progress, assess the issues or problems, and answer any questions or concerns of the recipient. Prepare and submit reports of these visits;
οƒ˜ Provide technical assistance to beneficiaries in monitoring the activities and performance of their grants, to ensure compliance with conventions and expectations, and the identification and management of problems or issues that arise during the implementation of the project;
οƒ˜ Review all grantees’ quarterly performance and financial reports to assess progress against implementation plans and performance targets, and makes recommendations for remediation as needed;
οƒ˜ Assist grantees in ensuring the accurate and timely submission of their disbursement requests and quarterly financial reports, including verification of information in the reports;
οƒ˜ Develop remediation plans jointly with the beneficiaries; and
οƒ˜ Help beneficiaries develop analytical skills to understand the situation and the financial conditions of their companies.
