When a neighbor reported that a little girl was being severely beaten over failing grades, the Community Justice Team in Liberia stepped in.

Instead of just punishing the mother, they brought both sides together. The mother admitted to her actions, agreed to stop the physical abuse, and was connected with counseling to manage her frustration.

Today, that home is peaceful, and the family is healing. This is what community justice is all about: protecting children and helping families rebuild.

Over 60 market women have benefited from a civic education and governance initiative called the Market Lecture Series, which is part of the National Endowment for Democracy Project (NED).

Accountability Lab Liberia, in collaboration with civil society partners from Bomi (Working Effectively Together Inc. - WET), Grand Cape Mount (Grand Cape Mount Women Network), and Gbarpolu (Kukatornor Women Peace Building Initiative), organized activities at local markets. The aim was to ensure that market women are not just participants in the economy but also central to our democracy.

The discussions focused on political participation, leadership, and the importance of women’s voices in governance.

One participant, Tutu Dedeh Mulbah, stated, “This is the first time people are bringing this type of information to us. Most times, we are not allowed in leadership discussions, but this information will help us to get involved in leadership.”

The conversation with the women was impactful and demonstrated that when women lead, the entire community benefits, and leadership should be accessible to all.

Our team at Accountability Lab Liberia was one of two CSOs at the crucial Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Workshop for the Second MCC Compact, held recently in Margibi County.

The discussions from the workshop confirm that limited access to reliable, affordable electricity remains the major binding constraint, hindering private-sector-led economic growth.

These findings confirm that Liberia's power challenges are systemic, demanding coordinated infrastructure investments alongside essential institutional and regulatory reforms.

The RCA outcomes are now guiding the investment programming for the second Compact, ensuring impactful, sustainable change is on the way.
