Amid Rising Border Tensions, Guinea Deports Over 500 Sierra Leoneans

More than 500 nationals of Sierra Leone have been deported from Guinea and are currently stranded at the Pamlap border crossing, awaiting clearance to re-enter their home country, according to Sierraloaded, a leading news outlet in the West African nation.

The mass deportation comes just days after a high-level tripartite meeting involving Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia, aimed at easing border tensions within the Mano River region. Authorities in both countries are yet to issue an official statement clarifying the circumstances or motives behind the operation.

Witnesses say Guinean authorities carried out a coordinated crackdown, rounding up hundreds of Sierra Leonean residents across several communities. Officials reportedly accused some of contributing to urban disorder, while others were described as idle or unemployed.

DN
The operation is said to have triggered widespread panic among affected families, with women, children, and elderly individuals among those caught up in the sweep, raising humanitarian concerns over the manner in which the deportations were conducted.

Today, we proudly join the Government of Liberia and our partners in celebrating World Water Day under the theme: Water and Gender — Where Water Flows, Equality Grows.

As we mark this important day, we are reminded that access to clean water is not just a basic need, but a matter of dignity, equality, and empowerment—especially for women and girls.

We remain committed to continuing the campaign for the protection, dignity, and safety of women and girls, and for the betterment of our society.

No to Violence.
No to GBV.
No to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Anyone can become a victim. No one is too educated, too beautiful, too smart, or too well-connected to experience abuse.
Let us speak up and break the silence. Please report cases of abuse, especially intimate partner violence. Your voice can help save lives and bring justice.
