Her Voice Liberia, in partnership with SEED, participated in the CSO-LVG Onboarding and Capacity Strengthening Workshop held at the United Nations Development Programme One UN House.

This engagement forms part of the inception activities under the EU-funded Spotlight Initiative Project 2.0, aimed at strengthening coordination, capacity, and impact among civil society actors working to end violence against women and girls that will be implemented in five counties.

Grateful for the opportunity to align, learn, and collaborate with key stakeholders driving this important agenda forward.

As International Women's Month comes to a close, the focus shifts from celebration to sustained action - honoring the resilience of women while demanding concrete progress toward equality. The climax of this month is not an ending, but a rallying call to turn awareness into lasting, intergenerational change.

Her Voice Liberia Condemns Alleged R**e Involving Deputy Minister Bryant McGill, Calls for Suspension and Swift Investigation

Monrovia, Liberia
September 17, 2025

Her Voice Liberia expresses grave concern over reports of an alleged r**e involving the current Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Bryant McGill.

We strongly condemn all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, especially when allegedly perpetrated by individuals in positions of public trust and authority. Such allegations not only harm the survivor but also undermine national efforts to promote gender equality, accountability, and justice in Liberia.

We therefore call on the Government of Liberia to:
• Immediately suspend the Deputy Minister pending the outcome of investigations, in line with principles of accountability and good governance.
• Launch a speedy, impartial, and transparent investigation into the allegations.
• Ensure the survivor’s safety, dignity, and access to justice throughout the process.
• Demonstrate zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence at all levels of leadership.

Her Voice Liberia stands in solidarity with survivors of SGBV and remains committed to advocating for a Liberia where women and girls are protected, empowered, and respected. We urge all stakeholders, including civil society, media, and international partners, to closely monitor this case to ensure justice is served without fear or favor.

A key contributor to the SGBV in Liberia has been the patriarchy. And a major boost of the patriarchy has been the proliferation of TOXIC Masculinity.
To reduce this, Her Voice Liberia has launched two "Young Men Clubs".
This is a pilot in two communities in lower Montserrado counties.
This program is aimed at providing a safe space for young men and training them on how to be refined young men, health related, on rights based issues and bringing them on par with the demands that exist in the 21st century.
As more young women get empowered, there's a need to ensure that positively masculine men are nurtured to create a based violence free society.
This initiative was sponsored by The Fund for Global Human Rights .

As part of our strategic plan for this year, we are expanding our SRHR program through our adolescent girls clubs.
This academy year, we are excited to share that we are expanding to two new schools.

Below is one of our safe space sessions with the girls at a local school rural Montserrado.
These sessions are always packed with curiosity, learning and sharing. We are super excited to welcome a new batch.

One major mode of engagements that has proven to bring effect change is Community engagements.
That's why a key component of our programs is having dialogues with community leaders.

With support from the Legal Empowerment fund through Global funds, we have had several community engagements and dialogues with community, religious and traditional leader on climate justice issues affecting their community. Focus on value clarification and rights issues that constantly affect women.

This week in Nairobi, Kenya, our Executive Director Evangeline D. Sirleaf, outgoing AWA Quarter 2 Cluster Lead, joined fellow advocates at the SOAWR Regional Training, representing Liberia.

The training focused on advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) under Article 14 of the Maputo Protocol, while strengthening collaboration among CSOs and women human rights defenders (WHRDs) across Africa.

Through sessions on legal frameworks, advocacy strategy, and protection mechanisms; like Equality Now’s WHRD Protection Guidelines, participants gained tools to close the gap between national laws and regional commitments, and push back against anti-SHR backlash.

Together, we move closer to a continent where SRHR is a protected right, not a privilege. 💜✊🏾
